Conor McGregor smashes punch machine after previously celebrating shocking low score

UFC superstar Conor McGregor has had another go on a punch machine.

On Sunday morning, the former dual-weight champion shared two videos of him whacking a punch machine on Instagram, with the caption: “Ding ding @bareknucklefc is the King.”

McGregor didn’t look fight-ready as he was wearing a shirt and pants, but that didn’t stop him from cracking the boxing bag with everything he had.

However, it’s not clear what score he got as both clips cut out before his punches had registered. McGregor was certainly happy with his second effort as he could be heard shouting ‘Solid!’

‘Notorious’ got some stick when he first shared footage of him hitting a punch machine because he celebrated getting an embarrassingly low score.

Last October, the Irishman cracked a punch machine in his pub with the same left hand that put Jose Aldo to sleep and only scored 1 out of 100 for his power.

McGregor celebrated hitting the thing so hard it stopped working properly.

“Breaking the thing twice, number one baby all smashed up yeah,” he said after punching the bag, suggesting this wasn’t the first time he’d caused the machine to malfunction.

The 36-year-old had another go and registered a much more respectable score of 860, which was just shy of the machine’s 879 record, but he still got some stick online.

Fans flooded McGregor’s comment section to mock his low first score and claim that he had lost it after sitting on the sidelines since breaking his leg during a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

McGregor is fully fit and desperate to return to the Octagon this year.

Michael Chandler is his comeback opponent, and the two rivals have agreed to clash at UFC 310, which will be Dana White’s last pay-per-view event of 2024.

However, the UFC boss believes it’s unlikely McGregor will return before 2025.

YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul recently shared a theory about why White is keeping his biggest star on the sidelines, even though he’s raring to go.

“For the people that don’t understand it and are saying, ‘Why is Conor not fighting? So Conor has two fights left on his fight deal and the UFC is trying to renew their rights deal,” Paul said on his podcast.

“They license their content to platforms, which are the fights. So they are trying to negotiate with multiple people or they might renew their deal with ESPN.

“A part of that negotiation is ‘Hey, we have Conor McGregor for two more fights’. But if you were to fight now then that wouldn’t be part of the negotiation.

“The company would be like, ‘Oh, well you only have Conor for one fight.’

“So that is why Conor isn’t fighting right now and that is what they do with the fighters.”
