The mother of Justin Bieber has been named as executive producer for an upcoming anti-abortion short film – after revealing she felt pressured to give up her son when she fell pregnant aged 17.
Pattie Mallette has lent her name to ‘Crescendo’, whose makers hope to raise $10 million for pregnancy centers across the country by holding 100 screenings of the film on February 28.
Mallette, 37, will appear at some of the screenings, production company Movie to Movement said.

In statement, she said she hopes her involvement will ‘encourage young women all over the world, just like me, to let them know that there is a place to go, people who will take care of you and a safe home to live in if you are pregnant and think you have nowhere else to turn’.
The pop star’s mother has spoken extensively about 𝑠e𝑥ual abuse, which began when she was just four, that led to her troubled adolescence and pregnancy.
By the time she was 14, she was taking drugs and alcohol to deal with the abuse, and by 15, she had lost her virginity. Two years later, she threw herself into the path of an oncoming truck to end her life.
Aged 17, after reuniting with her on-again off-again boyfriend Jeremy Bieber, Mallette found out she was pregnant.

In her recently-released memoir Nowhere But Up, Mallette explained that she was encouraged to have an abortion and felt pressured to terminate her pregnancy – but that it never crossed her mind.
‘I just knew I couldn’t,’ she said. ‘I just know I had to keep him. I didn’t know how I was going to do it. But I just knew that I couldn’t abort. I had to do my best, and I was determined to do whatever it took.’
She gave birth to Justin near her home in London, Ontario when she was 18.
Her relationship with Jeremy Bieber eventually broke down and, while her son maintained contact with his father, she largely raised him with the help of her parents, Bruce and Diane.

The film stars Swiss singer Patrick Nuo and actor Ali Landry, a former Miss USA.
Bieber has not commented on the movie or his mother’s part in it, although in 2011, when he was 17, he said: ‘I really don’t believe in abortion. It’s like killing a baby.’
But a longtime Bieber associate told the Chicago Sun-Times that the singer did not want to get involved in divisive political issues.

‘He’s all about entertaining his fans with his music and not interested in pushing a political agenda,’ they said. ‘Furthermore, I don’t believe he agrees with his mom on this issue.’
Mallette has also come under fire for her involvement, with some people attacking her on Twitter.
‘Oh, get Justin Bieber’s mother the f*** out of here,’ one angry user wrote. ‘Using her son to fuel her anti-choice agenda.’
