Originally built for King Fahd of Saudi Arabia, the road is now used for transporting goods and moving across the desert, connecting the central and western regions of Saudi Arabia with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It is a straight road across the Rub Al Khali desert, taking about 2 hours to complete and especially without any significant curves or slopes, creating a straight and beautiful stretch of road.

With its strangely straightness, driving on this road for hundreds of kilometers can easily become boring, drowsy and cause accidents. The road has only one slight bend just before ending at Al Batha. Collisions involving cars or camels are not uncommon on this road.
