An Inside Look at Vice President Kamala Harris’s Residences, Both Old and New

Vice President Kamala Harris was backed by President Joe Biden to succeed him after the latter withdrew from the 2024 election on Sunday.

She might soon be living in the White House if she secures the nomination and prevails.

But where is she now, in the interim?

As Harris ascends to prominence as the front-runner for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination and looks set to challenge Donald Trump in the near future, let’s look back at the numerous places she has called home.

Kamala Harris’ real estate—past and present

Harris and her husband, second gentleman Douglas Emhoff, live rent-free on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory at 1 Observatory Circle, which is about 3 miles from the White House.

Walter Mondale was the first vice president to live in the residence, and Harris is the ninth.

When Biden lived there during his time as vice president, he reportedly enjoyed spending time in the bright, airy solarium.

Before moving in, Harris hired decorator Sheila Bridges to give the home a refresh.

Bridges lined the home’s library walls with bright pink wallpaper, which was featured on fashion designer Prabal Gurung‘s Instagram feed.

While renovations were being made to the U.S. Naval Observatory home, Harris and Emhoff lived across the street from the White House in Blair House.

It’s the president’s official guesthouse, located at 1651 Pennsylvania Ave.

When Harris was appointed the first Black district attorney in the state in 2004, she purchased her 1,069-square-foot apartment in San Francisco.

The Wall Street Journal claims that she made a 63% profit when she sold it in February 2021.

Situated in the South of Market district, the home has one bedroom and 1.5 bathrooms.

Situated on the highest level of the structure, the loft features a chef’s kitchen, a fireplace, floor to ceiling windows, and a walk-in wardrobe. Moreover, it appears to have a private patio, which is extremely uncommon in the city.

They sold it in September 2021 for a 4.2% profit, according to the Journal.

The two-bedroom, two-bathroom condo is in The Westlight building in the tony West End neighborhood. The complex provides 24/7 concierge service, a pet-washing station, and a heated rooftop pool.

Harris and Emhoff also have a home in upscale Brentwood, CA.

Emhoff, an entertainment attorney, bought the 3,505-square-foot house for $2.7 million in 2012, two years before he married Harris.

Emhoff transferred the home into a joint trust after the wedding, and now he and Harris own it together, according to the Journal.

The sprawling home has four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and a swimming pool.
