NFL’s Top 100 Players: Mike Evans of the Buccaneers Is Not Respected?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans doesn’t seem to get many plaudits despite being one of the most consistent players in football over the past decade.

Evans had one of his best seasons in 2023, totaling 1,255 yards and a whopping 13 touchdowns as the Buccaneers claimed the NFC South and won a playoff game.

But for all of Evans’ talent and production, in CBS Sports’ top 100 NFL players list, he lands all the way down at No. 88.

“The Bucs re-signed the veteran receiver in large part because he continues to be a big-play threat in their offense,” CBS Sports wrote. “He had 13 touchdown catches and averaged 15.9 yards per catch in his 10th season. He’s gone over 1,000 yards receiving in each of his 10 seasons.”

Now, considering the list comprises every position, we can’t take issue with Evans being overlooked for quarterbacks or, say, T.J. Watt, but what about the other receivers who were placed above him? If it is based on their 2023 production, then there are questions.

Of course, the list is subjective, but Evans sure does feel like he should be higher among receivers.

Evans who was ranked at No. 88, had more yards and touchdowns in 2023 than Ja’Marr Chase (ranked 13th), Davante Adams (26th), Justin Jefferson (7th), George Pickens (68), Garrett Wilson (72), DeVonta Smith (82), Deebo Samuel (81), and Jaylen Waddle (42).

So, can Evans feel a little aggrieved about being ranked so low among other receivers? Sure, and let’s not forget we are basing it on the 2023 season. There likely wouldn’t be a list that would have Evans over Adams and Jefferson with all due respect to Mike.

But the others? there is a definite case to be made.

Disrespect is nothing new for the Buccaneers, and Evans appears to have his latest bulletin board material for the 2024 season.
