Pro-basketball player Rayford “Trae” Young is the buyer who paid $20 million for Clay Matthews’s Los Angeles-area home, according to property records and people familiar with the deal.
Mr. Young, 24, bought the Calabasas property in an LLC, according to property records. Nicknamed “Ice Trae,” the college-basketball star was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks in 2018 and later traded to the Atlanta Hawks.
The property is located in the Oaks of Calabasas, a gated community that has drawn celebrities such as the Kardashians. The roughly 14,000-square-foot, French Provincial-style mansion has seven bedrooms. Amenities include a home theater, a wine cellar and a wood-paneled game room with a billiards table. The library has a hidden safe room and a large aquarium built for Mr. Matthews’s exotic fish. Outside, the grounds include a large pool, a sports court, a pond and a rose garden.
Mr. Matthews is a former pro-football player who played for years with the Green Bay Packers. He and his wife, Casey Matthews, put the roughly 1.65-acre property on the market for $29.995 million in July 2021.
Mr. Matthews couldn’t immediately be reached for comment. The couple previously told The Wall Street Journal they wanted to be closer to Mr. Matthews’s brother in Tennessee. The price of the home was reduced several times before the sale.
Branden and Rayni Williams and Shana Tavangarian of the Beverly Hills Estates shared the listing with Nima Fathi of HBC Realty. Kathryn Newton of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices California represented the buyer.
