WWE may have subtly confirmed The Rock will not face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41

Cody Rhodes is enjoying a tremendous run as the Undisputed WWE Champion. With WrestleMania 41 approaching, multiple superstars are rumored to challenge the champion at the annual extravaganza.

One star who is at the top of the list as Rhodes’ possible ‘Mania opponent next year is The Rock. However, the Stamford-based promotion may have subtly confirmed that the anticipated match is likely not happening.

The Rock is likely to appear at Netflix’s premiere; Cody Rhodes is not booked

The latest edition of SmackDown may have confirmed that The Rock would not face Cody Rhodes. The American Nightmare returned to the blue brand and confronted Kevin Owens. He demanded a ladder match against KO, and Nick Aldis granted him his wish, booking the bout between arch-rivals for Royal Rumble 2025 instead of January 6.

Although Cody Rhodes has been heavily advertised for the show, it appears he is not booked for anything particular. Meanwhile, Roman Reigns and Solo Sikoa’s match is the rumored main event for the night. The Rock is most likely to make an appearance on the show, which means he could finally have a face-off with Reigns and reveal himself as the true mastermind behind the entire Bloodline saga, while The American Nightmare will continue his feud against Owens, at least until Royal Rumble 2025.

The Rock’s last appearance was seemingly a warning to Roman Reigns

The Final Boss made his surprising return earlier this year at the 2024 Bad Blood Premium Live Event, where he set his sights on Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, and Jimmy Uso from the ramp. Before departing, Rocky dropped a cryptic message by counting to three with his finger and doing a throat-slash gesture. This left fans wondering what The Rock was hinting at: Who did he want to target, Roman or Rhodes?

Cody Rhodes is currently involved in a rivalry with Owens, and his possible absence from RAW’s season premiere episode can be seen as a strong clue that The Rock was targeting Roman Reigns at the Atlanta-based event. Another major hint that eagle-eyed fans caught the same night also supports the narrative: Solo Sikoa was in the crowd suggesting that it was all part of the plan, hinting at Rocky’s potential involvement in the Bloodline saga.

WWE had teased Roman Reigns vs. The Rock as the biggest match in ‘Mania history

The Rock vs. Roman Reigns was initially planned for this year’s WrestleMania. However, the fans expressed dissatisfaction and supported Cody Rhodes, rioting over the possibility that his dream of being the first WWE World Champion in his family might not happen. This pushed the Stamford-based promotion to change plans, and The Final Boss and Reigns ended up teaming up to face The American Nightmare and Seth Rollins at WrestleMania Night One.

Before that, the company marketed Rock vs. Reigns as the biggest match in WrestleMania history. Also, throughout the build to ‘Mania 40, Rocky dropped hints that he was probably against Roman by throwing an “L” sign while doing “we the ones” to acknowledge Roman. Some segments led even fans to question The Final Boss’s true intentions.

The People’s Champion could finally feud with Roman Reigns this year, leading to a grand showdown at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas. However, all this is conjectural at the moment and it remains to be seen if The Rock has any plans of competing at The Show of Shows next year and, if so, what plans the Triple H-led creatives have in store for him in the coming months.
