Lewis Hamilton has admitted that his favourite car to drive was actually a McLaren and not one of his championship-winning Mercedes.
The Mercedes star has had the privilege of driving some of the fastest cars in the history of Formula 1 history.
However, speaking on the team’s official YouTube channel, he revealed that his favourite car to drive was actually a McLaren.
Lewis Hamilton is one of if not the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history.
His rookie season is still yet to be matched, although Oscar Piastri has come closest to equalling his achievements.
Incidentally, they both reached those levels in a McLaren and it’s where Hamilton went on to win his first world championship.
However, after four seasons of failing to challenge for the title, he decided to make the move to Mercedes.
It turned out to be a masterstroke, with Toto Wolff’s team helping Hamilton win six Drivers’ Championships.
Despite that success, Hamilton has now shared that his favourite ever car to drive was a McLaren rather than one of his unbelievable Mercedes.
It’s not just any old McLaren though and not even one that he raced in Formula 1.
But it clearly holds a special place in the heart of the 39-year-old.

The seven-time champion was answering questions sent in by fans and said: “Which has been your favourite era of cars to drive?
“Probably my favourite was driving Ayrton Senna’s MP4/4.”
The McLaren MP4/4 is an iconic car in the history of Formula 1 and one of the most successful designs of all time.
Driven by one of the strongest pairing in F1 history – Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna – the pair won every single race of the 1988 season except for the Italian Grand Prix.
Senna narrowly defeated Prost that season but the white and red livery is as easily identifiable as the black and silver associated with the likes of David Coulthard and Mika Hakkinen driving for the team.
Mercedes have had some amazing F1 cars as well, but it’s no surprise that Hamilton’s favourite is the McLaren.
What he would do for a car as dominant as the MP4/4 now to try and rival Max Verstappen’s Red Bull?
