‘Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury is a larger-than-life man who stands like a colossus at the top of the heavyweight pyramid.
Named after former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, he has been fighting his whole life – he was born three months premature and given almost no chance of surviving – it was his first fight, and he won.
He has been fighting ever since.
Fury comes from a family of fighters. Growing up he was never going to be short of people to spar with, of coaches or of heroes to watch.
Ahead of his second showdown Oleksandr Usyk with DAZN News shakes the Fury family tree.
John Fury (Father)
Misfits Boxing
The patriarch of the Fury family, John Fury, is a larger-than-life figure and a massive influence on Tyson Fury’s career.
A former bare-knuckle fighter and professional boxer, John carved out a reputation as a tough and determined competitor in the fighting world.
His professional boxing career in the 1980s and 1990s may not have reached the dizzying heights of his son’s, but he fought with grit and determination, amassing an 8-4-1 record.
John’s knowledge and experience shaped Tyson’s path from an early age.
Known for his fiery personality, John has been a vocal and passionate advocate for his son, often taking centre stage in press conferences and interviews.
John was Tyson’s first trainer, but he was forced to quit the role when sentenced to do time in jail.

Hughie Fury is a skilled heavyweight boxer and Tyson’s younger cousin.
Known for his technical style and durability, Hughie has been carving out his own path in the boxing world where his current record reads 29–3-0.
He rose to prominence by winning the gold medal at the 2012 Youth World Championships and later challenged for the WBO World Heavyweight title in 2017 against Joseph Parker, albeit in a losing effort.
Though he has not reached the same level of success as Tyson, Hughie has shown resilience and determination throughout his career.
The two share a close bond, often training together and supporting each other in their respective careers.
Tommy Fury (Half-Brother)
Wasserman Boxing
Tommy Fury, Tyson’s half-brother, has gained fame both inside and outside the ring.
As a light-heavyweight boxer, Tommy has built an unbeaten professional record while balancing a burgeoning career in reality television, including his appearance on Love Island.
Though he is sometimes criticised for his opponents’ quality in the ring, Tommy silenced many doubters in 2023 when he defeated YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in a widely publicised bout.
Despite carving out his niche in a different weight class and media space, Tommy frequently credits Tyson for inspiring and mentoring him.
Nathan Gorman (Cousin)
Nathan Gorman, another talented cousin of Tyson Fury, has made a name for himself in the heavyweight division.
Known for his sharp boxing IQ and hand speed, Gorman had a promising amateur career before turning professional.
He faced Daniel Dubois in 2019 for the British Heavyweight title, a fight that ended in his first professional loss.
Though his career has had ups and downs, Nathan remains a respected name in British boxing. Like many in the Fury clan, he benefited from the family’s deep-rooted fighting tradition.
Gorman boasts a 19-3-0 record with 13 of his wins by knockout.
Andy Lee (Second cousin)
DAZN
A former WBO Middleweight Champion (2014 to 2015), Andy Lee is one of the most accomplished boxers in the Fury family.
Born and raised in Ireland, Andy became the first member of the traveller community to win a World title.
Known for his technical skills and devastating right hook. He won his world title in 2014 by knocking out Matt Korobov.
Since retiring from boxing, with a 35-3-1 record Lee has become a respected trainer, working with several fighters, including Fury – he was assistant-trainer to SugarHill Steward for Fury’s rematch with Deontay Wilder.
Hosea Burton (Cousin)
Hosea Burton is another of Tyson’s fighting cousins, competing in the light-heavyweight division.
Known as ‘The Hammer’, Burton captured the British light-heavyweight title in 2016. Though his career has been marred by setbacks, including losses in key fights, he remains a skilled and determined competitor.
His current record is 28-4-0 and his last fight was a loss in May 2023. Hosea’s connection to the Fury family provides him with a strong support system, and he continues to pursue success in the ring.
Bartley Gorman V (It is starting to get complicated)
Bartley Gorman, often called the “King of the Gypsies,” was a bare-knuckle boxing legend and a key figure in the Fury family’s rich fighting heritage.
A cousin of John Fury, Bartley dominated the bare-knuckle circuit for decades, earning a reputation as one of the toughest men of his era.
Legend has it that he once fought a challenger down a mineshaft. Gorman was famous in illegal gypsy boxing more than the formal professional arena, but his reputation extended far and wide.
Bartley’s exploits inspired Tyson Fury, who often speaks of him with reverence – his ‘Gypsy King’ nickname is a tribute to Bartley’s legacy, ensuring his memory lives on in the modern boxing world.
