I sparred ‘smart’ Tyson Fury but he needs to make one big change to beat Oleksandr Usyk in rematch

David Adeleye was seriously impressed with Tyson Fury in sparring, but thinks one change will see him beat Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury is currently in the final stages of training camp with just over a week until his revenge mission against Usyk on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The ‘Gypsy King’ was beaten for the first time in his career by the Ukrainian, who picked up the undisputed heavyweight titles with a split decision win in May.

But the Briton is hopeful he can exact his revenge this month, and is adamant he only needs minor tweaks to get his hand raised this time.

British heavyweight Adeleye, a regular sparring partner of Fury who has shared over 200 rounds with him, has revealed exactly what it’s like to touch gloves with Fury.

He said on the latest episode of talkBOXING: “His timing is his main strength.

“He’s very awkward, when you see Tyson from outside, you see him shoot certain shots.

“But when you are in there, he’s doing everything for a reason. But with his timing it’s hard to pick up on that.

“It’s hard to gauge that, and definitely hard to see certain shots as he throws them at a different time.

“He does it very awkwardly and he’s very long, his timing is key and he knows when to dig in to shots.

“He’s very smart, Tyson’s camps are real. He has no yes-men in his camp, they tell him how it is.”

Adeleye has been full of praise for Fury, and is backing him to secure redemption against his familiar foe.

But the 28-year-old insists it is only one change that will see him reign victorious and become a three-time heavyweight world champion.

He added during an interview with talkSPORT.com: “I think we will see a better Fury.

“More so than a better Usyk. Usyk last fight was sharp, superb and on the ball so I don’t know if he can make many differences this time around.

“Tyson was sharp but was doing a lot of gimicky stuff. But I think he will be way more sharp and use his size a lot more.

“I think he needs to impose himself on Usyk more, but I feel like if anyone is going to win it’s going to be Fury this time.

“He needs to let Usyk know he’;s in there, and not let him back him up. But he can fight on the back foot, he just needs to get the job done.”

Fury will be able to spar before this contest, having had no competitive training action before the maiden fight.

This was due to a cut that his camp did not want to reopen, that he sustained just a couple of months before his May defeat.

He could look different on the night, given he is expected to have piled on weight to take a different approach.

Fury still looks in great shape right now as does Usyk, and a thrilling spectacle is promised.

The winner of the contest could have a big 2025, with a potential undisputed opportunity on the table against IBF champion Daniel Dubois.
