Actor and director Robert Redford is listing his house on the Tiburon Peninsula north of San Francisco for $4.15 million.
“The Way We Were” actor and his wife, artist Sibylle Szaggars Redford, paid $3.1 million for the four-bedroom residence in 2020, records show. Originally built around 1968, the roughly 2,824-square-foot house in Tiburon, Calif., is across the street from San Francisco Bay. The wood-shingled house is flanked by tall redwood trees, according to listing agent Steven Mavromihalis of Compass.

The actor, 88, is known for films ranging from “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” to “The Horse Whisperer.” In an email, he and Sibylle said the light-filled home has “lovely and distinct views” of the bay, Keil Cove and Angel Island from almost each room. The 0.2-acre property is also extremely private. “It sits on a quiet, unpaved cul-de-sac, which does not experience a lot of traffic,” they said.
After buying the home, the Redfords made cosmetic changes to the interior to brighten things up and create a coastal feel. They also enhanced the terraces and gardens. “We love Mediterranean gardens,” they said, “and Tiburon’s climate is perfect for plants like lavender, jasmine and succulents, all water-wise plants which now grace the outdoor spaces around the home.”
The couple said Tiburon’s promenade is one of their favorite spots. Unfortunately, they are not able to spend as much time in the town as they would like. They primarily live in Santa Fe, N.M., where Sibylle has an art gallery. They also have homes in California and Utah, where Robert started Sundance, a ski and resort community.
Tiburon has a rich history of dairy farming, as well as railroad and ferry operations, Mavromihalis said. Development of upscale homes took off in the 1980s, he said, and Tiburon is now one of the most affluent communities around the Bay Area, with a number of entrepreneurs and celebrities among its residents. Prices shot up during Covid because people wanted to get out of more densely populated areas like San Francisco, Mavromihalis said.

Like much of the Bay Area, the Tiburon market has slowed recently thanks to higher interest rates, Mavromihalis said. Still, the median sale price of a home in Tiburon was $2.7 million in October, up 6.4% from October 2023, according to real-estate brokerage Redfin. Among the area’s highest-ever sales was a 2015 deal in nearby Belvedere for $47.5 million, Mavromihalis said. In 2006, Andre Agassi and Steffi Graf sold a Tiburon estate for $20 million, property records show.
