Meghan Markle’s heartbreaking comment about King Charles appears to show how much has changed between the royals and the Sus𝑠e𝑥es.

The Duchess of Sus𝑠e𝑥, who officially joined the Royal Family in 2018, previously shared how much her father-in-law meant to her.

When discussing her estranged father, Meghan appeared to suggest that distance from Thomas Markle had made her appreciate Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet’s paternal grandfather.

Speaking in the couple’s 2022 Netflix series, Harry & Meghan, the 43-year-old said: “I’ve lost my dad in this, so him as my father-in-law was really important to me.”

Writing in his memoir Spare, Prince Harry shared that Meghan and his father were already close after learning the Duchess shared a birthday with his “favourite person”.

The Duke of Sus𝑠e𝑥 detailed how the King’s face lit up when he learnt that the former actress had the same birthday as his grandmother, the Queen Mother.

Harry wrote as per Hello!: “Towards the end of summer 2018, we went to Scotland, the Castle of Mey, to spend a few days with Pa. The bond between Meg and Pa, always strong, grew even stronger during that weekend.

“One night, over pre-dinner cocktails, Fred Astaire playing in the background, it emerged that Meg shared a birthdate with Pa’s favorite person: Gan-Gan. August 4.”

After learning the sweet detail, Harry said that his father recalled stories of his own grandmother.

Harry wrote: “‘Amazing,’ Pa said with a smile. At the memory of Gan-Gan, and the link between her and my bride, he suddenly became buoyant, telling stories I’d never heard, essentially performing, showing off for Meg.”

In the absence of her own father at her wedding in 2018, King Charles – whom Meghan previously described as “very charming” – walked his new daughter-in-law down the aisle.

It has previously been reportedly that King Charles offered Meghan six words of reassurance as she prepared to marry Harry. Upon meeting Meghan at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, Charles said: “You look lovely, are you OK?”.

Years after the wedding, the Duke and Duchess of Sus𝑠e𝑥 live in California with their children, and their relationship with King Charles and other key royals are believed to be very strained.
