According to sources cited by Variety, Sophie Turner is almost certain to play the lead in Amazon’s upcoming “Tomb Raider” television series. According to sources, the agreement is not yet finalized but is anticipated to do so shortly. Turner will portray the title character, the tomb raider Lara Croft. Earlier this year, Phoebe Waller-Bridge was given the go-ahead to write and executive produce the show as part of her Amazon overall contract. In January 2023, it was first mentioned that the streamer was working on it.
Turner is the latest high-profile actress to take on the role of Croft, who originated in the popular “Tomb Raider” video game series. The globetrotting adventurer was previously portrayed onscreen in two films by Angelina Jolie and in another by Alicia Vikander. Turner is best known for playing Sansa Stark in the HBO series “Game of Thrones” throughout the show’s eight-season run. She received an Emmy nomination for best supporting actress in a drama for the show in 2019.
