Injuries have been a rather sour topic for FC Barcelona this season, and for good reason. Despite possessing arguably one of European football’s most well-rounded squads, it surely does not look like it. The primary reason for that is the great number of Barcelona stars currently injured.
The likes of Marc Andre Ter Stegen, Joao Cancelo, Inigo Martinez, Marcos Alonso, and Gavi are all currently in recovery. Some of them are expected to be out for much longer than others despite positive updates. However, the worst part is that the list still continues to grow.
Despite Barcelona receiving the great news of Pedri finally returning to the team, they were met with yet another instance of misfortune.
As highlighted by SPORT, Brazilian winger Raphinha has now also been injured. Following the game against Osasuna, even Xavi himself confirmed that the player has a hamstring problem.
Prior to the conclusion of the first half, the 27-year-old winger already found himself on the ground. Clutching his legs, he was soon replaced by Spanish youngster Lamine Yamal. The incoming 16-year-old would later go on to make history for the side by scoring a goal himself on the night.
As for Raphinha himself, it does not seem that the injury is too unsettling. While he will possibly not miss too much action for Barcelona, it seems very likely that the Spanish Super Cup final is now off the table for him.
The chance to play against Real Madrid in any final is always a great opportunity for a Barça player, irrespective of who they are. As such, this injury comes at a very unfortunate time for the Brazilian winger. However, with Yamal ready to play and impress, Xavi will at least be happy with the alternative at his disposal.
SPORT further explains that Raphinha is set to have an MRI screening soon. This Friday, in Riyadh, further medical examinations of the player will take place and assess exactly how dangerous the problem is. For now, at least, the injury does not seem to be a severe one.
