Meghan Markle was allegedly “hysterical” following an interview for which she had received strict instructions from Prince Harry, a royal author has claimed.
In 2017, just two months before their engagement was revealed to the public, Vanity Fair and journalist Sam Kashner interviewed the now-Duchess of Sus𝑠e𝑥.
According to royal author Tom Bower, Harry had instructed his future wife not to discuss three key things in the interview: Donald Trump, race, and their relationship.
In his book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War between the Windsors, Mr Bower claimed: “Kashner arrived at Meghan’s home and was told that his interviewee had been given strict instructions by both Harry and Keleigh Thomas Morgan [a publicist at PR firm Sunshine Sachs].
“Knowing that Diana and Sarah Ferguson had ruined their reputations in interviews, Harry had asked Meghan to keep quiet about sensitive subjects – Donald Trump, race, their relationship and especially himself. He was not to be mentioned.”
Nevertheless, while Meghan appeared on the cover of the prestigious magazine, its headline ‘She’s Just Wild About Harry’ defied the Duke of Sus𝑠e𝑥’s hopes for his relationship not to be the focus of the attention.
The author went on to claim: “Within hours, Meghan called Ken Sunshine [founder of Sunshine Sachs Consultants] and Keleigh Thomas Morgan. Hysterically, she described Buckingham Palace’s fury at ‘Wild About Harry’.
“Sunshine Sachs said Meghan should have ensured that her comments about Harry were removed. Why wasn’t the focus on her philanthropy and activism?
“Ken Sunshine feared that Meghan would fire his agency. Puzzled why Buckingham Palace was angry, he called the magazine’s editor to deliver what he imagined to be the ultimate threat. ‘You’re going to have to deal with the Queen on this,’ he said.
“The furious monarch, he imagined, like Trump, would pick up the phone and berate the editor. The editor was bemused.”
Harry and Meghan tied the knot in Windsor the following year – on May 19, 2018 – before welcoming their son, Prince Archie, in 2019. Following their move to the US in 2020, their daughter Princess Lilibet was born in 2021.
The couple now reside in Montecito, California. Since their move to the US, Harry has paid many visits to the UK – Meghan has only visited the UK twice since 2020.
