Meghan Markle has previously spoken about allegedly cruel behaviours she faced from the Royal Family when she and Prince Harry had been living in the UK and been part of the fold.

Since the Duke and Duchess of Sus𝑠e𝑥 left their royal titles and moved to California, they have opened up about the treatment they received – including alleged racism, exclusion and bullying.

But there are some behaviours that the Duchess may not have even known about. Prince Philip, for example, had a nickname for Meghan that she wasn’t aware of – and it connected her to another royal similar to her.

The late prince gave the former Suits actress the moniker of DoW – standing for the Duchess of Windsor, which was the title given to Wallis Simpson.

Like Meghan, Wallis was an American divorcee, later marrying former King Edward VIII who abdicated the throne. She was given the royal title of Duchess of Windsor.

Royal author and expert Ingrid Seward said Prince Philip referred to Meghan by the same title, given that they both left their royal duties.

In a conversation with GB News, she remarked: “I think Prince Philip was very canny about people and he didn’t always see the bad in them, he tried to see the good in them. I think he just couldn’t get away from the fact [of the] similarities between Meghan and Harry and Edward and Mrs Simpson.

“There are so many similarities which is why he used to call her The Duchess of Windsor, I mean not to her face. We used to call her dow – DoW [the abbreviation for Duchess of Windsor].”

In her revealing book, My Mother and I, Ingrid shared that the late Prince Philip was “wary” of Meghan Markle, adding: “One of the few wary of succumbing to (Meghan’s) charm offensive… was Prince Philip. From the moment he detected her apparent similarity to Wallis, he referred to her as DoW.”

She further revealed that Prince Philip had tagged Meghan as “disruptive” within the Royal Family, while the late Queen Elizabeth II, was more positive about the union, saying she had “high hopes” for Meghan.
