Manchester United winger Antony left Sukru Saracoglu Stadium on crutches after being forced off in their 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce.
The Brazilian was stretchered off in the latter stages of the Europa League clash with Jose Mourinho’s side as his cameo was cut-short. Antony had only replaced Marcus Rashford 16 minutes earlier with United looking to regain the lead and earn their first win in this season’s competition.
Christian Eriksen fired the visitors to the perfect start as he drilled a right-footed strike home after 15 minutes but their lead was cancelled out just four minutes into the second half. Youssef En-Nesyri nodded home from Allan Saint-Maximin’s cross before the Turkish giants asserted pressure on the United goal with Bright Osayi-Samuel appealing for a penalty after an alleged trip.
United’s wait for a win in Europe extended to three matches, after draws with FC Twente, FC Porto and the Turkish Super Lig side – leaving them in 21st place.
In a tweet on X, talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook pictured the 24-year-old leaving the ground on crutches and in a protective boot. He wrote: “Antony on crutches leaving the stadium. #MUFC.”
The injury to Antony adds to Erik ten Hag’s injury issues with Harry Maguire, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw among the absentees. Speaking after the match, the Dutchman said: “It’s really unlucky for him.
“I feel real compassion for him, when he worked so hard in training. His training performances are that good that he deserved to come on.
“When you have to come off so quickly, that is really sad to see. Hopefully, it’s not too bad, we have to wait 24 hours for what the assessment is.”
