Lingerie Tycoon Michelle Mone’s Lavish Isle of Man Home Selling for £25M

The lavish estate of Scottish lingerie mogul Michelle Mone and her investor fiancé Doug Barrowman hit the market this month on the Isle of Man for £25 million (US$30.7 million).

Ballakew Estate, a U-shaped stone manor house with “ancient origins” on over 150 acres of land, was recently rebuilt and fitted with a range of lavish amenities, including a spa complex that has two treatment rooms, a sauna, steam room, hot tub and plunge pool, according to the listing with Savills, which declined to comment.

The mansion is featured every so often on Ms. Mone’s social media accounts. Two winters ago, for instance, the entrepreneur, who founded and sold underwear company Ultimo, showed off the elaborate Christmas lights strung up along the long carriage drive and central courtyard in an Instagram post.

The sellers have spent the past few years renovating the ancient farmstead, a job that ranged from converting the traditional outbuildings into staff accommodation to putting up silk-embroidered wallpaper, according to the listing. The 25,000-square-foot-plus home now has nine bedroom suites and five reception rooms.

Whether by coincidence or intention, the over-the-top home also made its TV debut this month. The documentary “Born Famous,” which aired last Monday on Channel 4 in the U.K. , follows Ms. Mone’s 20-year-old daughter, Bethany, around the house, where she shows off her sprawling bedroom and family’s private chef, according to The Sun, which first reported the listing.

Meanwhile, the grounds include a helipad, indoor pool overhung with a handmade fiber-optic chandelier and new gym complex, according to the listing.

The Isle of Man, a tax haven located between Great Britain and Ireland, does not make property ownership and transactions available online. But public company records show Mr. Barrowman, a private equity investor, has used the home as a mailing address in his business dealings going back to at least 2006, long before he and Ms. Mone were publicly dating.

It’s not known whether Ms. Mone, 47, owns any stake in the lavish estate. Her spokeswoman could not immediately be reached for comment.

Agencies Chrystals and Knight Frank also began marketing the home this month, according to Rightmove. The agencies could not immediately be reached for comment.
