Manchester United winger Antony has vowed to keep fighting for his place in the squad after scoring in the 7-0 victory over Barnsley.
The Brazilian winger has been struggling for opportunities at Old Trafford this season with his only appearance in the Premier League being a cameo against Brighton and Hove Albion. He was due to come on against Southampton but there was a change of plan as Matthijs de Ligt was forced off with cramp.
However, Antony was back in the starting line-up on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup. He would last the full 90 minutes and get himself on the scoresheet as the League One club were put to the sword.
Antony did well to win the penalty in the 35th minute after being brought down by Barnsley shot-stopper Gabriel Slonina. The winger would dust himself down to take the penalty and score to make it 2-0 to the Reds.
Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen all scored braces to cap off the perfect night for the Reds. After the full-time whistle, Antony was quick to head to Instagram to express his gratitude for his role in the victory.
“What an amazing day,” he wrote. “I thank God for it!
“I got to play, scored a goal, and we won the game! I’ll keep working hard to win more and more with this jersey!”
Antony will hope that the increased schedule for United this season will lead to more opportunities moving forward. Next up for the Reds is a trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday evening to take on Crystal Palace.
