The third entry in the TRON series, TRON: Ares, is finally being released by Disney. The next movie will carry on the tale of humanity’s interactions with the digital world of the Grid, where programs come to life and conflicts reach epic dimensions, after the events of TRON: Legacy (2010). The film, which is helmed by Garth Davis (Lion), is expected to delve further into issues of control, identity, and technology.
The plot of TRON: Ares revolves around a new protagonist, Ares, who emerges as a powerful figure within the Grid. While the specifics of the storyline remain under wraps, insiders have hinted that Ares, unlike the characters before him, is neither a program nor human. His unique origins set the stage for a clash between worlds—both digital and real.
Academy Award-winning actor Jared Leto takes on the lead role as Ares, bringing his signature intensity to the character. In recent interviews, Leto has expressed excitement about diving into the digital universe. “I’ve been a fan of TRON since I was a kid,” Leto said. “It’s an honor to be part of something that challenges how we see technology and humanity’s place within it.” Other cast members returning include Olivia Wilde as Quorra and Jeff Bridges in a yet undisclosed role, though fans speculate that his character, Kevin Flynn, will somehow return through flashbacks or as a remnant within the Grid.
