Manchester United are expected to offer Amad a new long-term contract in the coming months.

The 22-year-old has entered the final year of his contract but United have the option of an additional year to tie him to the club until 2026.

If a renewal has not been agreed before the new year then United will trigger the extension to prevent Amad’s representatives from negotiating a pre-contract with an overseas club in the January transfer window.

Amad has started in seven of United’s last nine games and he was named the club’s player of the month for August. During the pre-season tour, he expressed his wish to spend the remainder of his career at United.

“Yeah, why not?” Amad replied when asked if he intended to stay beyond his deal. “I’m very happy here. I think everyone is happy with me because I smile with everyone, good energy. Why not stay here all my life?”

The Ivory Coast international switched agencies in the summer to Leaders, who also represent Alejandro Garnacho. Garnacho inked a five-year contract with United in April 2023.

United signed Amad from Atalanta for a fee rising to £37million on transfer deadline day in October 2020. He spent half a season on loan at Rangers before an impressive season-long loan with Sunderland in the Championship in 2022-23.

Since returning from a five-month lay-off with a knee injury in December last year, Amad has cemented his place in the first team squad and made his first meaningful Premier League start against Arsenal in May.

United have viewed Amad as an integral squad member since the summer and he shone during pre-season, scoring against Rangers and Real Betis.

He has claimed one goal and assisted another in his three Premier League starts this term.
