Angelina Jolie Discusses Women’s Rights Amid the Harvey Weinstein Sexual Assault Scandal in Hollywood.

Angelia is one of many A-listers to have spoken out against the movie mogul

Angelina Jolie has delivered a powerful message on women’s rights as news of a đť‘ eđť‘Ąual assault scandal sweeps Hollywood.

Harvey Weinstein, seen as Hollywood’s most powerful person, stands accused of misconduct stretching back 30 years, following a report in the New York Times last Thursday.

As A-list stars continue to come forward with new claims regarding Weinstein’s supposed abuse of power, Angelina, who claimed she was one of those targeted, has appeared on the cover of the 150th anniversary collectors’ edition of Harper’s BAZAAR.

The actress and humanitarian spoke on her hopes for the future, female empowerment and said she believed it’s what you choose to stand against that defines a person.

The Changeling actress said: “If my life experience has taught me anything, it is only what you stand for, and what you choose to stand against, that defines you.”

She added: “Women make up most of the world’s poor… when the environment is damaged – for example when fishing stocks are destroyed, wildlife is killed by poachers, or tropical forests are bulldozed – it deepens their poverty.

“Women’s education and health are the first things to suffer.”

Angelina said we need to stand up for women’s rights

Angelina’s tough-talking words comes after she joined the list of A-listers to allege they were personally targeted by Weinstein.

Angelina claimed in an email that she’d had a “bad experience” in a hotel room with him in the late 1990s during the release of Playing By Heart.

After more actresses brought đť‘ eđť‘Ąual harassment reports against him, Weinstein was fired from his own company for his “misconduct”.

A representative for him has now said: “Any allegations of non-consensual đť‘ eđť‘Ą are unequivocally denied by Mr Weinstein.”

As well as speaking out on women’s rights, Angelina also used her appearance in the magazine to discuss another important issue close to her heart: keeping wild animals in the wild.

The actress and filmmaker appears on the cover dressed in a white floor-length Ralph Lauren gown flanked by wild animals.

The stunning photo shoot took place at the N/a’an ku sê Wildlife Sanctuary, in Namibia.

The animals have been sponsored by Angelia and her family since 2015 and the star said she hoped the shoot would bring attention to the issue of animal poaching.
