This hilltop home, where Lindsay Lohan filmed the movie as part of an earlier comeback effort, is currently on the market with Russell Grether and Tony Mark of Compass. The avant-garde property at 21940 Lamplighter Lane played a significant role in the Paul Schrader-directed film, which saw Lohan as Tara, alongside adult actor James Deen as her film producer boyfriend, Christian.

Though the low-budget film was considered a flop, holding a 21 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the estate itself became a standout feature during the three-week shoot. Due to budget constraints, Schrader opted to use existing locations, including the Chateau Marmont and the Palihotel Melrose. The production was bolstered by a crowd-funding campaign, including a notable $10,000 donation that allowed the filmmakers to use the Malibu home. According to The Times, the estate quickly became one of the most dependable elements of the film.
There property includes a detached studio.
Completed in 1978 and designed by architect Vitus Mataré, the modernist residence boasts dramatic angles, curved walls, and unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean and Carbon Mesa. “The setting of this home is incredibly unique, situated on its own promontory,” Grether said. “The private road access makes all of Malibu easily accessible while offering panoramic views of the ocean and surrounding mountains.”
Below the home is a swimming pool.
The property comprises four separate structures: the main house with a two-car garage, a pool house, a detached carport, and a versatile workspace that can serve as a gym or music studio. The four-bedroom, four-bath primary residence features vaulted wood ceilings and minimalist finishes. The main level includes an open living area, a formal dining room, a kitchen, and an expansive covered patio. The detached workspace is situated on the hillside with unobstructed views, and a corkscrew staircase leads down to the pool house beneath the pool terrace.
The pool has ocean and mountain views.
The sale also includes an adjacent lot at 2620 Coal Canyon Road. “It’s extremely rare to find this level of privacy and acreage with ocean views so close to Pacific Coast Highway,” Mark noted. “The property functions as a compound, offering numerous spaces perfect for both relaxation and entertainment. The pool is arguably one of Malibu’s best.”
