Jake Paul and Conor McGregor accused of disrespecting boxing in bizarre rant from Lennox Lewis’ ex-manager

Jake Paul and Conor McGregor have been accused of “insulting” boxing by former promoter Kellie Moloney.

Paul and McGregor have both stepped in the boxing ring in recent years despite not having a natural background in the sport, taking part in huge events.

Moloney famously promoted Lennox Lewis who had a prestigious career as an undisputed heavyweight champion, in what was considered a golden era for squared circle action.

But she now believes that the sport has simply gone away moved away from its principles.

She told The Mirror: “I don’t follow a lot of boxing no more. It’s changed.

“I don’t agree with the likes of Jake Paul fighting, I don’t agree with the old guys coming back, boxing is a young man’s sport.

“Boxing is a sport of dedication. I never watched any of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua against Francis Ngannou. I never watched any of those fights.

“I never watched Floyd Mayweather against Conor McGregor. They, to me, are insults to boxing. And I understand about the money, that sort of money wasn’t around when Lennox was around, but Lennox was a true boxing person.

“I’m not sure if he would have taken part in anything like that. I don’t know, because we never got the opportunity to try it.

“Boxing is such a dedicated and dangerous sport and business, and I think a number of the champions would be turning in their grave today at what’s going on in the boxing world.

“I’m surprised I haven’t been asked to fight Jake Paul. He likes to fight old people and people past their best.”

McGregor was the first of the two names to have climbed in the ring, switching from the UFC to the boxing ring to face Floyd Mayweather in 2017.

It was a bumper event which generated huge revenue and interest as the second most-watched pay-per-view of all-time, but he ultimately was completely outclassed.

YouTube star Jake Paul has jumped on the trend of influencers in the ring, and has capitalised on his social media profile.

He has fought a whole raft of ex-MMA fighters since climbing in the ring such as Anderson Silva and Tyron Woodley.

The ‘Problem Child’ has become a huge name in the sport, and is astonishingly set to next face heavyweight legend Mike Tyson.

Tyson is 58-years-old and far from his heyday, which has seen Paul come under heavy fire given it will be a sanctioned professional contest.

And despite Moloney’s claims, Lewis stated he would surprisingly return in an exhibition to face the winner.

He said: “That’s a good question. I hope that Tyson saves a little bit of Jake Paul for me.

“Mike Tyson’s gonna win. Mike Tyson’s not that old. Don’t take him too softly. We’re one year apart.
