Conor McGregor drops major update on his UFC return against Michael Chandler

Some pundits and fans alike have wondered if Conor McGregor will ever fight again but it could potentially transpire before the calendar year is out. Recently on social media, X user @DiceMma12 tweeted at the former two-division champion succinctly stating:

“December champ?”

To this, the Irish superstar responded via his personal account @TheNotoriousMMA with even more brevity by simply saying,

“Yes”

An account on that platform known as @ChampRDS posted this online exchange and this has understandably been getting fans talking. The Michael Chandler fight has historically faced a lot of delays and general uncertainty if it would ever transpire.

The two men coached against one another on ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ and initially had a throwdown slated for UFC 303. The June 29 pay-per-view main event fell out due to McGregor sustaining a toe injury and many were unsure when or if the fight would ever be re-booked.

The final month of the year does make sense as the UFC seems to have a largely locked-in or at least tentatively mapped-out schedule other than December. Time will tell though and the bout has not been officially confirmed at this juncture.

Check out Conor McGregor discussing his desired December return below:

Conor McGregor and the long road to returning

Conor McGregor has been out of action for the last three years now following a devastating injury inside the confines of the cage. This transpired in his trilogy bout against Dustin Poirier and saw the former champ-champ injure his leg at UFC 264.

Not many had expected him to return quickly after a gruesome leg break he suffered in July 2021. But the expectations have ramped up since participating in that aforementioned TUF season with Michael Chandler.

The 36-year-old taking on the former Bellator lightweight champion has seemingly been put on the backburner at times. This amid McGregor dealing with things like residual issues from a dangerous driving incident and going public with an ownership stake in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.

The Dublin native’s 29th professional mixed martial arts fight could be a blockbuster, buzz-generating Christmas gift to fight fans. But going off of the precedents that have been set so far, the MMA community to wait on this one with bated breath.
