Erik ten Hag is considering bolstering his Manchester United squad with the addition of Dutch talent Xavi Simons on loan.

The United manager has already secured two signings from the Netherlands, totalling £76million, for Joshua Zirkzee and Matthijs de Ligt from Bologna and Bayern Munich. Now, Ten Hag has praised 21 year old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Simons, who impressed despite the Netherlands’ exit to England in the Euros semi-finals.

“I enjoyed Xavi Simons in that game (against England),” he said.” “The drive he has, the passion with which he conquers balls and recognises situations are top.

“His enormous drive as well. That is almost un-Dutch. I think you can see that he was trained abroad. He almost has a southern European doggedness in his game.”

After spending the previous season on loan at RB Leipzig, Simons, who returned to PSG in a £5million transfer from PSV Eindhoven in 2023, could be loaned out again by the French giants, provided there’s an obligation to buy. This arrangement could align well with United’s transfer strategy.

During the tournament, Simons remained tight-lipped about his future. On the transfer talk and the future, Simons stated: “I was happy in Paris. Things have happened. Now, I was in Leipzig this year. We’ll see after the Euros.”

The Sun recently reported that United are one of two clubs showing an interest in signing the 21-year-old. Bayern Munich are also keen having already beat the Red Devils to Michael Olise’s signature earlier in the summer.
