If you enjoy watching Hidden Potential on HGTV, please help! If you’re interested in I Wrecked My House, then this listing is guaranteed to catch your eye. The enchanting home, which features unique interiors and a roof deck, is currently for sale in the Orange County community of Huntington Beach. It is owned by none other than Jasmine Roth, the California-based designer and builder behind both programs.
The 39-year-old native of Virginia, who helps do-it-yourselfers with failed home-improvement projects and turns cookie-cutter houses into custom dream homes, is asking slightly less than $6.5 million for the so-called Roth Homestead, which she and her husband Brett bought for $700,000 back in May 2016. The listing is held by Compass’s Kevin Via.
Located in the well-liked Lake Park neighborhood, this brown wood-sided, white-accented building was constructed entirely by hand over the course of three years, showcasing Roth’s characteristic “California casual” design. In a little over 4,550 square feet, the 2020-completed home has five bedrooms and six bathrooms, hand-brushed, matte-oiled engineered hardwood floors, a Savant Smart Home System that can be controlled via a phone app, three HVAC zones, and a monitored security system.
Tucked away on a less than quarter-acre plot of land, the two-story house is reached by a walkway that ends at double wood doors that lead to the front terrace. Once inside, a hallway leads to a formal dining room that is heated by a fireplace on one side and an office area with a full bathroom on the other.
The “entertainer’s” kitchen, including an expansive eat-in island topped with leather-finish black granite, open shelving, light oak cabinets, bespoke Viking appliances, and a breakfast nook, is connected to the dining room through a butler’s pantry equipped with a wine fridge. There’s a built-in reading nook and a pet cubby beneath the curved staircase in the adjoining living room with a fire place, and pocketing glass doors that open to a covered terrace with three TVs and an integrated Lynx BBQ.
Elsewhere on the main level is a bonus room that flaunts a wet bar and a “secret” bookcase that opens to reveal a speakeasy-style lounge with banquette seating; and upstairs, four bedrooms include a serene primary suite resting beneath a vaulted ceiling and flaunting a decorative fireplace, a walk-in closet, and a marble-clad bath spotlighted by dual vanities, a glass-encased shower, and a vintage black and gold clawfoot soaking tub.
There are three additional bedrooms and two more baths, along with a TV-viewing area and a laundry room on the second floor. Rounding it all out is a backyard pool and cedar-barrel hot tub, plus a roof deck hosting a firepit and “the only five-and-a-half-car garage in downtown Huntington Beach.”
Roth, who has a 4-year-old daughter and is expecting her second child later this year, is selling because she and her family are moving to Park City, Utah. “Putting the Roth Homestead up for sale is bittersweet,” she says. “It took me three years to build, and it’s been a place we’ve called home for over four years. Hazel was 3 months old when we moved in. I’ve filmed countless scenes of my HGTV series here, and we have so many amazing memories that we’re forever grateful for! That said, as our family grows, we’re excited for our next chapter in Utah, where we’ll be trading sounds of the ocean and sand for our snowboards and hiking trails.”
