In-demand striker Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to Manchester United, according to reports in Italy.
La Repubblica has claimed that United are prepared to offer a cash-plus player deal for the Napoli star. Despite enduring a difficult campaign in their title defence, the Nigerian continued his fine goalscoring form netting 15 in 25 appearances after a staggering 26 in 32 Serie A outings the previous campaign.
It was suggested that Rasmus Hojlund could be a player used as a makeweight to lure the 25-year-old to Old Trafford in a sensational development. But the MEN reported at the end of April that the Dane was among the four players that United will not entertain offers for this summer.
The Independent reported in March that United had emerged as the main contenders to sign the attacker with French giants Paris Saint-Germain. It has been claimed that Osimhen has a €110million (£93m) release clause after being the subject of intense speculation over his future in Naples.
United’s Premier League rivals, Chelsea, were strong contenders along with Arsenal and it has been suggested that the interest from London will remain this summer.
However, he has already shown where his loyalties lie, speaking in an interview with John Obi Mikel, he said: “I don’t have a favourite Premier League team but I’ve two jerseys: Chelsea and Man United. Many friends of mine are Chelsea fans, few are Man United fans.
“Premier League is the most appreciated league by every African player – it’s a huge league.”
Anthony Martial is officially a free agent after leaving United upon the expiry of his contract at Old Trafford. The Frenchman endured a difficult spell with the club, plagued by injuries, but his departure means that the club are light in the attacking department.
United’s ambitions to strengthen their frontline have been evident following reports revealed by the MEN in April. “You need two strikers in a league we are in and the competitions,” said Ten Hag.
