Outfielder Johnny Damon gained notoriety for his shoulder-length hair and scruffy beard while he was a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Therefore, the hair salon in the Florida house he had custom built for his family shouldn’t come as a surprise.
The nine-bedroom lakefront home in the Orlando suburbs was constructed in 2010 by the 50-year-old former outfielder and his 48-year-old wife, Michelle Damon. They are now asking $30 million for it on the market.
According to selling agent Alice Anne Jackson of Corcoran Premier Realty, the approximately 30,000-square-foot house is situated in a gated enclave in the town of Windermere, some 10 miles west of downtown Orlando. According to Jackson, the approximately 4.8-acre property features a dock on Lake Butler and 540 feet of waterfront.
The Damons, who were married in 2004, bought the land for $4 million in 2007, said Johnny, who grew up in the Orlando area. The home’s amenities include a two-lane bowling alley, sports bar, cigar lounge and arcade. “He was playing baseball, so when you’re done at the end of the season, you do not want to leave your house,” Michelle said. On the property, her husband added, “you never run out of things to do.”
To help him stay fit in the offseason, the home has two gyms, including one off the primary suite, as well as a sauna and steam room. There are also multiple outdoor sports courts for tennis, basketball and volleyball.
The property has a saltwater pool with a swim-up Hibachi grill and bar, plus a grotto and a slide, said Jackson. There is also a zip line and a vegetable garden, where the Damons grow almost all of their produce, said Michelle.
Not only does Michelle utilize the hair salon to pamper friends, but Johnny and their son Dash also frequent it. After signing with the New York Yankees in 2005, Johnny chopped off his beloved long hair, but he later grew it out to compete with Dash, who is seven years old.
According to Jackson, the main floor of the house features a two-story closet, an indoor and outdoor shower, and a coffee station. The six kids (ages 7 to 16) that live with the Damons have an outdoor playhouse, a separate kids’ dining area, and a playroom. According to Johnny, the family has two karaoke rooms and a music loft where they keep drums and vintage guitars because they are both athletic and musical. There are two kitchens in the house, and according to Michelle, she throws yearly Naughty Cookie parties for her girlfriends where they make sensual-looking cookies.
There are three guest apartments in the home, and according to Johnny, his mother resides in one of them right now.
