Martin Short has added yet another apartment to his portfolio, despite already owning one in Los Angeles. Documents reveal that the adored comedian, writer, and actor—particularly recognized for his roles on Saturday Night Live, SCTV, and most recently, Only Murders in the Building on Hulu—just paid $2.2 million for some refurbished apartments in Brentwood’s Upper Mandeville Canyon neighborhood. When the home was first advertised in March for about $2.4 million, Short was able to negotiate a little price.
Constructed in the early 1960s and recently remodeled with a modern aesthetic, the white building is tucked away on a verdant plot of ground that is nearly three-quarters of an acre in size. The property features four bedrooms and three bathrooms spread across a little more than 1,800 square feet of split-level living space, with a shared driveway that empties into an attached two-car garage, a set of steps that stops at a pretty porch before going up to the double entry door, and hardwood floors and wood-beam ceilings throughout. Sliding glass doors open to multiple al fresco lounging and entertaining areas.
Although there aren’t many photos, internet postings display a large dining area/workspace next to a kitchen that has been updated with stainless steel equipment, and a living room that is centered by a corner fireplace with a marble surround. The bedrooms, which include a main suite with a private balcony and a spa-like bathroom, are accessible through a hallway.
Outside, the private garden features a freeform swimming pool and spa bordered by a grassy sundeck, along with a seated bar, fire-pit conversation area, and seasonal waterfall. A detached studio apartment with a kitchenette and bathroom is also available.
The 74-year-old actor, who is Canadian by birth, originally became well-known for his sketch comedy roles as Ed Grimley and Jiminy Glick. Since then, Short has starred in a large number of films and television shows, such as The Morning Show, Father of the Bride, Innerspace, Three Amigos!, and Innerspace. In addition, he performed in Broadway versions of Little Me and The Goodbye Girl, the latter of which brought him a Tony Award for “Best Actor in a Musical.” Short has long owned a primary residence in Pacific Palisades, which he spent $1.3 million for back in 1987, in addition to the property he recently bought.
Max and Anthony Marguleas of Amalfi Estates represented the buyer, while Robin Walpert of Sotheby’s International Realty/Pacific Palisades Brokerage handled the listing.
