The custom-built California mansion of former NBA player and current coach Brian Shaw and chef Nikki Shaw, has hit the market for $7.895 million.
Located in Oakland, California, the 9,220-square-foot home offers an open layout with a seamless indoor-outdoor flow and far-reaching views of the Bay Area, according to the listing with Peter Monroe of Coldwell Banker Realty.
If the home sells for anywhere close to its asking price, it will be the most expensive single-family home sold in the East Bay market since a $20 million sale on the Oakland-Berkeley border in 2016, Monroe told The Real Deal, which first reported the listing.
Behind its ornate metal gates, the single-story residence stands on 3 acres of land in the Ridgemont Hills, the listing said. It’s built around a large, circular driveway and is powered by solar panels on the roof, listing photos show.
“The non-traditional, but practical architectural design of this property makes it versatile for large events or private intimate gatherings,” the listing said. “With 180-degree views spanning five bridges, the sites from this property are unparalleled.”
Custom designed by the Shaws, the home was completed in 2003, according to property records. The couple bought the underlying property in 2001, but Mansion Global could not determine how much they paid for it. After 20 years, the couple has decided to sell the residence. Representatives for the Shaws did not immediately return requests for comment.
Nikki Shaw was a finalist on the third season of “The Next Food Network Star” and has worked with brands such as the American Heart Association and the Golden State Warriors. She’s filmed cooking tutorials in the home’s kitchen—which was refreshed last year—for Cuisine Noir Magazine, according to its website. There’s a large island with room for six, a double refrigerator, plenty of storage and a breakfast area, listing photos show.
The main living area opens to the terrace, where there’s an outdoor kitchen and pizza oven.
There are five bedrooms and five bathrooms, including a primary suite with a private outdoor area, a fireplace and a bathroom with a soaking tub and separate shower, listing photos show.
Other amenities include an office, an indoor swimming pool, a spa, a video game room and a dog kennel, plus a basketball court.
Brian Shaw, an Oakland native who is now an assistant coach for the Los Angeles Clippers, spent 14 seasons as a player in the NBA. He started his career with the Boston Celtics and ended with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he was part of three championship teams.
