Seoul Grand Park is set to unveil to the public the newest members of its Siberian tiger family—triplets Haerang, Parang, and Sarang. Visitors will be able to see them running around and playing with one another alongside their mother Penza inside the animal enclosure of Seoul Grand Park starting on Fri, Nov. 11.Seoul Grand Park’s three newly born baby tigers were born with an international pedigree on Apr. 23, 2022 while celebrating the Year of the Tiger. These triplets are Siberian tigers—the largest subspecies of tiger and one of the world’s most endangered—born to an internationally recognized purebred father Rostov (age 12) and mother Penza (age 12).

Triplets Haerang, Parang, and Sarang were born to Rostov and Penza following special care and management of nutrition, health, and stress for two years since 2020 in accordance with the Species Survival Plan (SSP program of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). Therefore, the triplets’ birth is significant in that both Rostov and Penza have succeeded in breeding in nine years despite their old age.The triplets were born in an indoor pen and raised through Penza’s maternal care, but they are now ready to live in their outdoor enclosure after having completed training with a team of zookeepers since September and confirmed to be environmentally acclimated since October.

Seoul Grand Park prepared a special briefing session on Nov. 11, where officials announced to unveil the triplets to the public for the first time and zookeepers demonstrated feeding special food to Haerang, Parang, Sarang and Penza while discussing the journal entries of their rearing.Seoul will continue to pay close attention to the triplets’ healthy growth for the conservation of the endangered Siberian tiger and promote animal welfare.
