Kim Kardashian alluded to her family’s connection to the late O.J. Simpson in a preview for next week’s edition of The Kardashians.
On the Hulu reality series – which was filmed last autumn prior to Simpson’s death at 76 last month – the 43-year-old star explained in a confessional segment how a jury duty obligation was interfering with her birthday plans.
‘It’s my birthday week and I’ve been called to do jury duty, said the Los Angeles native, who shares an October 21 birthday with fellow celebs Doja Cat and Amber Rose.
Kim made a reference to her late father Robert Kardashian’s work on the late O.J. Simpson’s ‘Dream Team’ of attorneys, saying, ‘I feel like there’s some kind of O.J. connection that could get me out of jury duty.’
A chucking Kim clarified, ‘Ha! Just kidding!’

It’s the second reference to Simpson – who was acquitted in the 1994 double murder of his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and friend Ronald Goldman – Kim has made this month.
She also alluded to Simpson during her May 5 set at The Greatest Roast of All Time: Tom Brady in Los Angeles, which came after Simpson’s April 10 death from cancer.
In addressing Brady, she said, ‘Honestly, it’s hard for me to watch people roast you – but I think enough of my family members have helped defend former football players.’
Kim was seen on multiple days last fall around her birthday at the Van Nuys Courthouse in Van Nuys, California, serving out her jury duty in a murder case, and was ultimately dismissed.
The reality star took part in a session in which she and other potential members of the jury pool were asked questions by attorneys for the prosecution and defense, but was not asked any questions directly, sources told TMZ at the time.
Kim mingled with other jurors and was seen taking in snacks in the hallway amid breaks in the proceedings, and had members of her Hulu crew filming as she fulfilled her civic duty.
It was not clear if the jury duty service did cause Kim to ultimately alter her birthday plans, but she did get to enjoy a meal with family and friends at the Beverly Hills, California restaurant Funke last October 20.
In addition to relatives such as her mother Kris Jenner and sisters Khloé Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Kendall Jenner, Kim was joined by celeb friends such as Kimora Lee Simmons, Hailey Bieber and Ivanka Trump.
Robert Kardashian served as one of O.J. Simpson’s attorneys and primary intermediary between the accused murderer and the rest of his legal team, but their friendship waned in the years after Simpson’s 1995 criminal acquittal and Robert’s death in 2003

Simpson’s relatives confirmed his passing via social media April 11, saying in a post on Twitter/X, ‘On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren.’
Kim chat about Simpson with David Letterman on his Netflix series My Next Guest Needs No Introduction in October of 2020, explaining the complicated impact the double murder had on her family.
Kris was close friends with Nicole, Kim said, while Robert was close with O.J. and a member of his legal team.
Kim said she recalled her mother and O.J. ‘getting into it’ on the phone when he called her from jail on one occasion.
‘My mom was extremely vocal on her feelings – she believed that her friend was murdered by him and that was really traumatizing for her,’ Kim said. ‘And then we’d go to my dad’s house and it was a whole other situation there.
‘We didn’t really know what to believe or whose side to take as kids, because we didn’t want to hurt one of our parents … it tore my family apart, I’d say, for the whole time of the trial.
The Kardashians debuts new episodes on Hulu each Thursday at 12 a.m. ET.
