Kim Kardashian sparked fierce backlash after fans learned she would be appearing on Variety’s Actors on Actors series opposite Oscar-nominated actress Chloe Sevigny.
Internet users were both outraged and baffled to learn that Kim – who starred in just one television series – had been paired up with Chloe as part of the publication’s elite series.
Actors on Actors sees accomplished performers engage in a conversation about their work, and this year Variety described the celebrities featured in their round-up as ‘the biggest stars of this year’s Emmys season.’
Also making the list was Jon Hamm, who once blasted Kim as a ‘f**king idiot’ in a 2012 interview.
Both Chloe, 49, and Kim, 43, did star this past year in shows created by legendary producer Ryan Murphy – Sevigny in Feud: Capote vs. The Swans and Kardashian in American Horror Story: Delicate.

But X users took offense on behalf of Chloe – who received an Oscar nod for the 2000 film Boys Don’t Cry – as they slammed the decision to even have Kim appear on the series.
‘This is an insult and a slap in the face to Chloe who actually is a series actor who loves the art,’ one remarked on the social media site.
‘It’s disappointing to see the continued focus on celebrity culture over substantive conversations in the entertainment industry. There are countless talented actors deserving of recognition beyond the realm of tabloid headlines,’ another wrote.
‘I’m so sorry Chloe girl,’ one wrote.
Others were perplexed to learn Kim – who had limited acting experience prior to AHS – was being hailed as an ‘actress.’
‘When did Kim become an actor?’ one wrote.
‘What experience will kim share about her acting roles?’ another asked.

Kim also starred in another Ryan production – season 12 of American Horror Story
This year’s Actors on Actors series also features Mad Men alum Jon Hamm, who was previously embroiled in a war of words with Kim.
Hamm referred to Kim when he hit out at the cult of celebrity in an interview with Elle UK magazine, saying that it made ‘idiots’ like Paris Hilton and Kim into millionaires.
‘Whether it’s Paris Hilton or Kim Kardashian or whoever, stupidity is certainly celebrated,’ he told Elle UK magazine back in 2012.
‘Being a f***ing idiot is a valuable commodity in this culture because you’re rewarded significantly.’
But Twitter users took offense on behalf of Chloe – who received an Oscar nod for the 2000 film Boys Don’t Cry – as they slammed the decision to even have Kim appear on the series
But Kim hit back on Twitter: ‘Calling someone who runs their own businesses, is a part of a successful TV show, produces, writes, designs, and creates, “stupid,” is in my opinion careless.’
‘I respect Jon and I am a firm believer that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that not everyone takes the same path in life. We’re all working hard and we all have to respect one another.’
Kim received mixed reviews for her role of cunning and suspicious publicist Siobhan Corbyn in American Horror Story: Delicate.
The season – which will be returning for a second part – was based on Danielle Valentine’s book Delicate Condition and was created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk for cable network FX.
The novel centers on an actress who struggles to achieve a balance between her rising public profile and her arduous IVF journey.
At the same time, the character begins to suspect that a malevolent force is keeping her from successfully becoming pregnant.
Fans both slammed and praised her performance on Twitter and reviewers spoke fondly of Kim in recaps.
In a review by The Guardian, Kim was described as ‘makes for a believably b*tchy publicist in the 12th season premiere of Ryan Murphy’s campy horror show.’

USA Today described Kim in their review headline ‘only reason to watch the awful’ 12th season.
‘And yes, Kardashian’s acting skills may be more People’s Choice than Emmy-worthy,’ the reviewer wrote. ‘But like “American Horror Story” alums Jessica Lange and Lady Gaga before her, she’s the only one so far to deliver on the season’s high-camp potential.’
Deadline wrote: ‘She’s perfect for the part — everyone calm down, it’s not like Kim is playing Portia in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice.’
Kim had limited acting experience prior to landing her starring role on American Horror Stories.
While she has numerous guest roles on her IMDb, much of her acting work has been done playing herself.
Kim played herself in 2018’s Ocean’s Eight and on episodes of 2 Broke Girls and 30 Rock.
She did, however, lend her voice to the role of Delores in the PAW Patrol movies.
