Manchester United players, including Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount, were fitted with £1,000 Paul Smith suits and posed for photos ahead of the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Manchester United‘s players have got their suits fitted ahead of the FA Cup final this weekend.

Erik ten Hag‘s side face arch-rivals Manchester City at Wembley on Saturday afternoon in the showpiece event, with the Red Devils hoping to end a difficult season on a high.

A victory will also secure European football for the Red Devils following their eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

And, United’s stars will be looking sharp for their arrival in London after the club shared photos of the squad in their specially-made suits.

The suits, which are designed by Paul Smith, are reported to be worth £1,000.

Alejandro Garnacho also showed off his smart design ahead of this weekend’s crunch clash

United, who lost the FA Cup final to City last year, did a similar thing on that occasion, with Paul Smith also designing the suits.

Suit fittings for FA Cup finalists have long been a tradition in the English game, but it doesn’t always tend to take place.

Yet, perhaps the most famous incident in relation to them also involved United ahead of the 1996 FA Cup final against Liverpool.

However, it was their opponents who stole the headlines, after the Reds’ squad – who were nicknamed ‘the Spice Boys’ – rocked up in cream-coloured Armani suits, outlandish striped ties and white Gucci shoes.

United went on to win the showpiece event 1-0 thanks to a late Eric Cantona goal and it’s fair to say Sir Alex Ferguson was left less than impressed by his opponents on the day.

‘It was ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous,’ Fergie recalled in a BBC documentary in 2015.

Liverpool famously wore cream-coloured Armani suits for the 1996 FA Cup final with United

‘Blue shirt, red-and-white tie and white suit. And a blue flower. We couldn’t lose after they wore that. No way. Who designed that? They say it was Armani. I bet his sales went down.

‘Liverpool Football Club’s a great club with history, they’ve won the European Cup more times than Manchester United.

‘Between Manchester United and Liverpool, they’ve won more trophies than any other club in Britain. That didn’t represent Liverpool.’

United reached the final of this year’s competition after victories over Wigan, Newport County, Nottingham Forest, Liverpool and Coventry City, while City defeated Huddersfield, Tottenham, Luton, Newcastle and Chelsea on their way to Wembley.
