Jared Leto has finally addressed the rumor alleging he sent a dead rat to Margot Robbie during the filming of the 2016 film Suicide Squad.
The 49-year-old actor recently appeared in a video for GQ where he discussed the effort that he put into portraying several characters over the length of his career.
The performer also directly commented on the longstanding rumor that he had a dead animal delivered to his 30-year-old costar while in character as The Joker.

During the video, Leto bluntly stated, ‘I never gave Margot Robbie a dead rat, that’s not true.’
He then remarked that, on the contrary, he did send the actress numerous pastries during the production of the film.
‘I actually gave her a lot of… I found this place in Toronto that had a great vegan cinnamon bun… so that was a very common thing,’ he said.
The actor added, ‘It’s funny how all this stuff takes on a life of its own.’

The rumor initially stemmed from a 2016 interview with Shortlist where Robbie, who portrayed Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, commented that she was ‘surprised’ when Leto allegedly sent her the animal.
It was also specified in the article that the rat was alive when it was received by the actress.
The I, Tonya actress then elaborated on how she was glad to have collaborated with the 30 Seconds To Mars singer.
‘To have such commitment from the other half made my job a thousand times easier, and a thousand times more fun. I didn’t know what was going to happen when we got on set. It’s exciting to act opposite that,’ she said.

In the video, the Fight Club actor commented on the lasting quality of The Joker and remarked that he saw the character as something that could be experimented with.
The actor noted, ‘It’s this generation’s version of, like, taking on an infamous Shakespearean character, lots of people have played the before, lots of people will play it in the future.’
He also expressed that he was happy to have had the chance to try something new with the character and stated that the crew found the entire experience enjoyable.
‘It’s an opportunity to kind of do something new and explore challenging territory, and we had a lot of fun with it,’ he added.
