Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde join forces for female-led superhero film Avengelyne, based on Rob Liefeld’s comic book.

Two of the biggest female stars in Hollywood — Margot Robbie and Olivia Wilde — are reportedly teaming up on a new female-led superhero film.

Wilde is set to direct a film adaptation of Avengelyne, a comic book character by Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld that debuted in 1995, Deadline reported Thursday.

The film will be produced under Robbie and her husband Tom Ackerley‘s LuckyChap Entertainment banner as well as Simon Kinberg, known for the Deadpool and X-Men films, and Audrey Chon of Genre Films.

LuckyChap is the production company behind Greta Gerwig‘s eight-time Oscar nominated film Barbie, which saw Robbie play the beloved Mattel doll.

Meanwhile, Wilde previously directed the 2019 coming-of-age flick Booksmart, which received critical acclaim, and 2022’s drama-plagued thriller Don’t Worry Darling starring her hunky ex-boyfriend Harry Styles.

According to Deadline, Avengelyne is not being developed with Robbie in mind to play the comic book heroine — despite previously portraying Harley Quinn in DC superhero films.

The outlet also dished that a ‘big A-list writer’ is keen on adapting the screenplay.

Variety reports that the project has yet to be picked up by a studio or streamer but that it will be pitched to bigwigs in the coming weeks.

Avengelyne is a comic book centered on a fallen angel who fights demons and monsters on Earth.

She was considered the ‘most feared warrior in Heaven’s Warhost’ before being banished from Heaven by God after questioning his love for humanity, as per Deadline.

Liefeld created the character and story in collaboration with Cathy Christian and Tony Lobito.

Liefeld previously spoke about Avengelyne’s ‘relatable’ redemption arc and how it has ‘resonated so powerfully’ with comic book readers.

‘A fallen angel, sentenced to redeem herself by serving humanity, Earth is a foreign environment to her, she must adapt in order to save herself as well as mankind. Her dilemma provides humor amidst the larger plot engine driving her journey,’ he explained.

Avengelyne’s illustrations show her as a busty, auburn-haired vixen dressed in a racy black vinyl costume with a coordinating choker necklace with a large cross pendant.

She uses a ‘holy sword’ from the Crusades to fight off and destroy her enemies.

Avengelyne will mark Wilde’s second time working with Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment, which the Aussie star launched with Ackerley in 2014.

The production company is currently producing the House star’s latest film Naughty, a Christmas film for Universal Pictures.

Wilde made the pivot from acting to directing in 2019 with Booksmart and she currently has two projects in pre-production, including Naughty.

Robbie is preparing to star in the upcoming Kogonada-directed film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey with Colin Farrell.

It was also recently announced that Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment will soon produce a movie based on the long-running video game series The Sims — though few details about the exciting new project currently known.

It is set to be directed by Kate Herron, who has worked behind-the-scenes on hit TV shows including Loki and Sex Education, with a release date yet to be confirmed.

The Sims video game series began in 2000 and allows players to live in a ‘virtual simulation’ of life in which they can create their own lives.

From picking their character’s personality trails, job, skills and relationships to building homes, the computer game became hugely popular and was expanded with sequels and expansion packs.

There is no leading character in the Sims universe, but individually created ones by gameplayers, and can see the characters embark on any journey, from mundane day to day activities to adventures involving vampires and magic.

Margot is currently only listed as a producer for the movie, rather than also taking on the lead role like in the Barbie movie, although it is possible she may have a cameo in it.
