Chelsea urged to consider signing Real Madrid veteran duo by former winger

Speaking on talkSPORT, former Chelsea winger Joe Cole has urged the Blues to make a move for Real Madrid veteran duo Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the summer.

Both Modric and Kroos are in the final few months of their respective contracts at Real Madrid and there is still no clarity over their future.

As far as Kroos is concerned, a renewal appears likely as he still remains a regular fixture in the starting lineup under Carlo Ancelotti.

Modric, though, could seek an exit in search of regular minutes while some within the club are also not in favour of his contract extension.

Chelsea could benefit with Modric, Kroos says Cole

And former England international Joe Cole has claimed that Chelsea could benefit hugely by adding a player like Modric thanks to his experience which could rub off on the youngsters.

“I’d be looking to bring in some experienced players who set the tone. I’m thinking is Luka Modric out of [contract]? Does he want to come and play in the Premier League for one more year?”

“He’s still doing bits at Real Madrid. And how much has he helped [Eduardo] Camavinga, [Aurelien] Tchouameni, [Federico] Valverde? He would’ve had such an influence on them as players,” Cole said.

Then urging to explore the possibility of bringing in Kroos as well, the former winger added:

“Toni Kroos is 34. Does he want to test himself at his age? Coming over here and helping out this young squad. They’re just names I’ve thrown off the top of my head, I don’t know their situation.”

Despite Cole’s insistence, it is unlikely that Chelsea would consider such a move while both Modric and Kroos are not likely to consider a switch to the Premier League either.

Kroos has always maintained that he wishes to call time on his career at Real Madrid. As for Modric, his situation is a bit more complicated due to the lack of game-time.
