Thanks to endorsements, hit films, and a little franchise called The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence has been named the world’s highest-paid actress as part of Forbes’ annual ranking list.
Lawrence banked $52 million before taxes over the past year, moving up from second place last year. In December, Lawrence was also named the top grossing actor (male or female) of 2014, with hits like Mockingjay – Part 1 and X-Men: Days of Future Past earning more than $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office.
Scarlett Johansson took second place on the list of highest-paid actresses, earning $35.5 million, and Melissa McCarthy followed her with $23 million. Sandra Bullock, who topped last year’s list with $51 million, dropped to 15th place this year, earning $8 million.
This is the first year that Forbes’ annual list has looked at actors and actresses around the world, not just in Hollywood, and Chinese actress Bingbing Fan placed fourth with $21 million. For the past three years in a row, Fan has topped Forbes’ China Celebrity 100 list, which ranks the popularity and earnings of Chinese celebrities, and she’s best known for her appearances in films like The White-Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom and X-Men: Days of Future Past.
A few weeks ago, Robert Downey Jr. was named the highest paid actor for the third year in a row, earning $80 million. While the list of actors included 21 men who made more than $20 million, only four women earned that much.
