Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig will use their brutal Oscars snub to create an epic Barbie sequel that will be ‘even better’ than the billion dollar blockbuster, and according to insiders, they’ve already had discussions with Ken star Ryan Gosling.
Fans were left fuming last month when nominations were announced for the 96th Academy Awards and Margot, 33, failed to get a mention in the Actress in a Leading Role category, and 40-year-old Greta was nowhere to be seen on the line-up for Achievement in Directing.
However, the duo have not let the insult put them off from diving into the world of Mattel once again and are treating the snub as ‘a badge of honor’ – and have even discussed the possibility of a follow up film with Ryan, 43, who earned an Oscar nomination for his role as Barbie’s doting admirer Ken.
Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, an insider revealed: ‘Many fans want a sequel and Greta, Margot, and Ryan have talked about the possibility ad nauseam, but it would have to be a perfect idea.

They caught lightning in a bottle with this first one in such a way that it is going to be a massive undertaking to tap that well one more time and make it as massive as the first.
‘They know they can do it; they just want to do it right if they jump into the Barbie world again.’
The source continued: ‘It’s been something the studio would love to see and will certainly pressure for, and one thing that may make things very promising for a sequel is the fact that Margot and Greta were snubbed, they are taking it as a badge of honor and would love to come back and show that the first wasn’t a fluke and make the sequel even better.
‘But if we don’t get a sequel, spinoffs are still likely. If you are a betting person, we haven’t seen the last of the gang all together again and Margot playing Barbie again.’

Talk of a sequel comes after Suicide Squad star Margot finally broke her silence about the Oscars drama during a Q&A at a special screening of Barbie at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles on January 30.
The blonde star didn’t address her own Oscars snub but emphasized they were ‘beyond ecstatic’ that the film had achieved eight Oscar nominations.
‘We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact. And it’s already done that, and some, like way more than we ever dreamed it would. And that is truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this,’ she said.

‘I’m so, so obviously ecstatic. Everyone getting the nods that they have is incredible and the Best Picture nod.’
She added of the whole controversy: ‘There’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.’
DailyMail.com exclusively revealed that father-of-two Ryan refuses to forfeit his Best Supporting Actor nomination despite calls from fans across the globe for him to do so.
After the Oscar nominations were revealed on January 23, Ryan expressed his fury that the Academy had overlooked his female colleagues in a statement, but fell short of giving up his nomination in protest.
An insider said at the time: ‘Ryan is sticking by his statement. He understands people are upset because he is upset as well, but he is not going to be swayed by what anyone is saying online.’
They continued: ‘Ryan is honored that he has been nominated and the film has been nominated. In the chance he does win or if he performs I’m Just Ken, he will honor Margot and Greta in one way or another.’
According to the source, Ryan is doing what is right for his heart, and he has the support of his cast and director.
‘He is not looking to make this into something more than it has become. He spoke about it and people should take what he said seriously because he meant every single word,’ the insider said.

In his statement, Ryan began by expressing gratitude for his nomination, and said: ‘I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films.’
‘And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.’
The actor then went on to share his disappointment at Margot and Greta not being nominated, before praising them for their work on the film.
‘Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history,’ he added.
He then congratulated his co-star America Ferrera, who received the Best Supporting Actress nod.
‘Having said that, I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film,’ he said.
