Talk To Me dominates AACTA Awards with 8 wins, including Best Film and Best Actress for Sophie Wilde. Margot Robbie honored with Trailblazer Award.

Australia’s answer to the Oscars has been swept by an independent horror film.

The supernatural smash hit Talk To Me took home most of the biggest gongs at the 2024 AACTA Awards, which was held on the Gold Coast on Saturday.

The flick was awarded Best Film, Best Direction for brothers Danny and Michael Philippo, and Best Actress for Sophie Wilde.

It had already taken home several other trophies, which were announced ahead of the main ceremony.

Talk to Me cleaned up on Thursday, taking out Best Editing, Best Original Score, Best Screenplay, Best Sound, and Best Hair and Makeup, giving it a total of eight wins.

The chilling film has been an international hit since its release last year, grossing over $92million from a budget of just $4.5million.

Meanwhile, a glowing Margot Robbie was all smiles as she took home the prestigious Trailblazer Award.

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart also won a slew of awards for the television category.

The Amazon Prime series, based on the hit novel of the same name and starring movie star legend Sigourney Weaver, picked up Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, and Best Sound.

Amazon’s black comedy crime series Deadloch also collected some gongs, with Best Casting, Best Editing, and Best Original Score in the television category.

Rebel Wilson hosted the awards ceremony, and as expected she brought her signature sense of humour to the show.

‘I love Queensland… It’s like if Jetstar was a state,’ she told the crowd, who erupted in laughter.

She added, ‘All the best Married at First Sight participants are from Queensland.’

The comedian also made a questionable joke that ended up being cut from Channel 10’s live telecast, according to news.com.au.

‘Why is Australia so good at making horror? Is it because everyone had that aunt who’s had half a nose chopped off because of skin cancer?’ she asked.

The edgy quip was reportedly met with groans from the A-list audience.
