When you think of Margot Robbie, you typically picture her radiant smile and glowing skin, but the actress has been quietly establishing herself as a fashion force to be reckoned with, especially when it comes to her red carpet looks.
The actress, who got her start in the iconic television series Neighbours, has since starred in blockbuster, career-defining movies including The Suicide Squad, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, The Wolf Of Wall Street and Mary Queen Of Scots.
After being dressed by Calvin Klein for the 2016 Met Gala and later starring in their ad campaign, it wasn’t long before she was being scouted by major international fashion houses. Chief among them, Chanel. In 2018, the brand appointed Robbie as a brand ambassador for the iconic French fashion house, ensuring that most, if not all red carpet appearances saw the actress arrive in a custom or couture look.
Since then, her style has undoubtedly evolved from laidback mini dresses to show-stopping gowns. That being said, while her aesthetic will continue to grow alongside her, we know she’ll always be that down-to-earth, girl-next-door Aussie girl that we know and love.

At the 2019 Cannes photo call for Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Robbie channelled the late Sharon Tate by wearing the same hairstyle Tate did when she attended the film festival in 1968. She also she wore a white off-the-shoulder Chanel frock with silver heels.
At the 2019 Los Angeles premiere of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Robbie debuted a ’70s look inspired by an icon of that decade, Lauren Hutton. Arriving in a billowing Chanel gown with long sleeves and cinched wrists, the dress was cut down from her neck into a low V. Her hair hang in loose curls and a copper eyeshadow ensured her blue eyes popped.
At the 2019 UK premiere of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, the actress wore a burnt orange gown by Oscar de la Renta, which was also cut down the front into a low v-shape. Gold heels and a gold clutch completed the striking look.

Appearing at the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards in 2020, Robbie arrived in a strapless Chanel gown which featured a colourful, beaded top-half and simple white skirt on the bottom-half. According to The Zoe Report, this Golden Globes gown reportedly took 225 hours to make, with the bustier being made up of of 4,750 individual crystals. Oh, and the best part? It had pockets.
For the 73rd annual EE British Academy Film Awards at the Royal Albert Hall in 2020, a black gown from Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2020 Couture collection was the dress of choice for Robbie. Featuring a full tiered skirt and dramatic lace sleeves with an open back, it was an incredibly glamorous look for one of Britain’s night of nights.
For the Chanel Womenswear Spring Summer 2021 showing held in 2020, the actress unsurprisingly donned Chanel, sporting a boxy white blazer dress with heeled boots and a petite Chanel bag. She was the vision of effortless chic, posing with her hands in her pockets and giving off a relaxed yet upscale aesthetic.
Robbie arrived at the 93rd Annual Academy Awards in 2021 wearing a Chanel dress that took 205 hours to make. The metallic lace mermaid dress was based on a look from Chanel’s fall 2019 Couture collection, with the actress working alongside stylist Kate Young to create the look.
Robbie’s press tour for The Suicide Squad gave us this show-stopping look from the Los Angeles premiere in 2021. Pulled from the Resort 2022 runway, her look was slightly pared back for the daytime affair, with the bandage-style halter neck top encrusted with Chanel pendants, matched with a pair of white tapered pants and strappy heels.
For the 90th annual Oscars held in 2018, Robbie donned a custom Chanel dress that took over 600 hours to create. The haute couture look was made by Karl Lagerfeld himself and featured a corset bodice with a 3D band of crystal tubes, filled with camellias, a favourite flower of Coco Chanel.
InStyle reported that the corsage and strap embroidery required 550 hours of work by fourteen fashion hands, while the assembly of the dress took 130 hours.
The 2018 Vanity Fair Oscar Party saw the actress change into an ethereal, glimmering gown which was once again, haute couture from Chanel. A pair of Jimmy Choo ‘minny’ sandals could be spotted through the sheer, floor-length part of the dress.

A fantastical dress was the perfect gown to promote a fantastical film, with Robbie attending the 2016 Suicide Squad premiere in a gold-sequinned dress with an embellished unicorn by Alexander McQueen.

Robbie took on a more whimsical aesthetic for the London premiere of Suicide Squad in 2016, donning a Gucci floral dress from Alessandro Michele’s 2016 pre-fall collection. The frock had delicate, floral spaghetti straps and a roaring lion emblazed across the front, in a strong juxtaposition to the feminine design.
