Russell Wilson Signs with the Cleveland Browns | Free Agency Reaction.

Russell Wilson has quickly become one of the hottest commoddities when it comes to NFL quarterbacks on the Free Agent market.

The Cleveland Browns on the other hand are one of the most QB needy teams in the NFL, with their current quarterback Deshaun Watson likely to miss a portion of the 2025 season with his achilles injury.

Russell Wilson to sign as the Cleveland Browns QB?

Here’s an excerpt from TWSN’s Alex Frank on why Wilson is a fit in Cleveland:

“The truth is, the Browns need everything. Every position, except for maybe edge rusher and running back are positions of need this offseason. But I went with the most obvious position of need for the Browns, and stop me if you’ve heard this before. Cleveland needs a quarterback. Particularly, though, they need a quarterback that can be an adult in the room. A leader. No drama. A proven winner. That’s who Russell Wilson is.

Say what you want about Wilson and his play the last three seasons. Pair him with Kevin Stefanski, and I believe he has one good season left in him. Even if Wilson is just a bridge quarterback to a future first-round draft pick, that’s better than going into next season with Deshaun Watson or whoever the Browns have on their roster at quarterback. Watson may miss the entire next season, anyway, so Wilson would, at least, give them a chance at being competitive next season.”

Alex is spot on with his analysis of Cleveland badly needing a bright spot at quarterback, but I truly believe Wilson would only sign to a team if he’s the entrenched starter and not having a quarterback who was taken with a Top-3 pick waiting behind him. The Browns will have a quarterback at their disposal whether it’s Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders, but similarly to how Kirk Cousins felt about the Michael Penix Jr selection with the Falcons, Wilson will likely go to a team that WON’T draft a QB in the Top-10.

Russell Wilson Other Free Agent Options

TWSN’s Marissa Myers discussed the Titans, Giants, and 49ers as the best possible landing spots, but in reality, the teams outside of the Pittsburgh Steelers that make the most sense are the Raiders and Giants.

The Las Vegas Raiders connection makes too much sense with Pete Carroll in the building looking for either a veteran who’s consistent or a young guy who will become the franchise QB.

The New York Giants are another intruiging one as he’d act as a bridge quarterback for hopefully a younger quarterback sitting in the wings behind him. People also forget, in the 2023 offseason, it was rumored that Wilson was going to New York because his wife Ciara was a huge proponent of moving to New York.
