Steelers were named the most attractive destination for two veteran quarterbacks.

The Pittsburgh Steelers were fortunate to have two capable quarterbacks, Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, leading their offense in the 2024 NFL season. While both had their moments, neither truly solidified themselves as the long-term answer in the Steel City. As the 2025 season approaches, both quarterbacks have expressed a clear interest in returning, but only one is expected to be back.

Many Steelers fans prefer Fields, as he is younger, more athletic, and significantly cheaper than Wilson. With a market value of roughly $6.4 million, Fields is an affordable option, making it a logical move for the Steelers to see if he can be their future. Meanwhile, Wilson is expected to command a hefty price tag, which could be a major overpay for a team that needs clarity at the position.

As Pittsburgh weighs its quarterback situation, two veteran names have started to gain traction in rumors—Aaron Rodgers and Matthew Stafford. The possibility of either landing in Pittsburgh has sparked heavy debate among fans and analysts. However, NFL insider Albert Breer added fuel to the speculation in his latest Sports Illustrated article posted on Monday morning, revealing that the Steelers are widely viewed as a highly attractive destination for veteran quarterbacks.

“The Steelers, to me, remain the most attractive destination for an older veteran quarterback like Matthew Stafford or Rodgers, given how many pieces are already in place, the history of the franchise, and the presence of Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith,” Breer said.

Breer’s statement is particularly intriguing, given his reputation as a highly respected insider across the league. The key question is whether he’s sharing this insight based on actual information he’s hearing or simply making an assumption about the Steelers’ quarterback situation. Either way, when Breer speaks on the topic, his words carry more weight than most, making this a storyline worth following.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford gets ready to throw a deep ball down the field to his teammate during an away game.

Both Stafford and Rodgers present interesting possibilities. Stafford, despite being 37, is still widely regarded as an elite quarterback, but prying him away from the Los Angeles Rams wouldn’t be easy.

Acquiring him could be seen as a bold, win-now move to maximize the potential of Pittsburgh’s veteran roster, though it would be costly and complex. Still, many Steelers fans seem intrigued by the idea.

Steelers Possibly Bringing In Aaron Rodgers Hasn’t Made Fans Happy

Rodgers, on the other hand, has not been an appealing option for most Steelers fans. In fact, the reaction to any rumors linking him to Pittsburgh has been largely negative. At 41 years old and coming off an unusual season with the New York Jets, there are serious doubts about whether he would be the right fit for the Steelers’ future.

In 17 games with the Jets, Rodgers completed 368 of 584 passes (63.0%) for 3,897 yards, averaging 6.7 yards per attempt. He threw 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, putting up solid numbers, but his play didn’t translate to wins for New York. Beyond that, bringing Rodgers in would come with plenty of off-field drama.

Playing devil’s advocate, Rodgers is incredibly motivated. Reports suggest he even pleaded with Jets ownership for another shot to finish what he started, but they weren’t interested. Adding one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, determined to prove his doubters wrong, might seem like a compelling idea—but at 41 years old, it’s not one that excites many Steelers fans. This move feels eerily similar to the Wilson situation, which didn’t have a strong ending in the 2024 season.
