Conor McGregor has shared footage of the moment he suffered an agonising leg break in his defeat to Dustin Poirier this summer – insisting ‘the fight was going my way 100 per cent’ before his injury.
Poirier won via a doctor’s stoppage at UFC 264 in the first round as a result of McGregor’s leg blow in July as the Irishman was condemned to back-to-back defeats against the American.
But ‘Notorious’ took to social media to highlight where he picked up his injury in a new clip that shows the fighters at a closer angle.
Conor McGregor has shared footage of his leg break he suffered against Dustin Poirier in July
The fight was ended via doctor’s stoppage after a series of leg kicks from the Irishman
But in a clip he shared on social media, he believes the leg was broken ‘before I stood up’
The video – filmed just outside the cage – starts with McGregor on the floor hitting Poirier with a couple of upkicks before getting to his feet and applying a leg kick to the American, who then floors the Irishman with a big left straight.
‘Good angle,’ he wrote on Twitter, accompanied by the clip. ‘Can see the leg was broke before I even stood up. It was broke before the guillotine even.
‘It’s why I went for it. Four shots to zero here in this clip to close the fight before the injury. This fight was going my way 100 per cent. But big congrats lads hahaha ye right. Rats.’
‘Can see the weight in those upkicks he was eating here as well. Which weren’t even the two heaviest upkicks I landed. Where was he going from open guard top here?

Poirier defeated McGregor for the second time in a row, and is now set to face Charles Oliveira
‘He not like upkicks thru the face? Elbows down thru the crown? No like? Tough s**t, see ya soon.’
McGregor broke his left fibula and tibia, with the leg needing to be put into a cast – with referee Herb Dean having to call off the contest, much to the despair of the crowd.
The 33-year-old is now looking to make his comeback from the leg break following two damaging defeats to Poirier. A fourth fight against his old rival has been mooted, but he is set to face Charles Oliveira in December for the lightweight title.
McGregor is targeting a return in 2022 and insists his recovery from his injury is going well
McGregor has teased a possible return in 2022, and said in September his recovery was going better than anticipated.
‘I feel like I could kick right now,’ he told Adam Glyn. ‘I honestly feel like I could kick right now. But I’ve just got to listen to the doctors and listen to the people that guided me, that’s what I’ve done so far.
‘I’ve committed myself to the work. I’m back on the feet. It feels so good to be back on the feet.’
