Conor McGregor explains exactly why $500m Logan Paul fight collapsed as he teases career change

Conor McGregor claims UFC brass shut down his money-spinning boxing bout with Logan Paul.

Shocking reports surfaced last month that former dual-weight UFC champion McGregor and YouTuber-turned-WWE-superstar Logan Paul were in talks to face each other in India for $250million each.

It seemed as though negotiations were moving in the right direction but McGregor’s employer, the UFC, pulled the plug on the crossover clash.

“It is what it is,” McGregor told interviewer The Schmo on Thursday.

“The UFC just aren’t into it. The offer was there on the table, in writing.

“Both athletes will say, ‘He’s not fighting,’ but both athlete are under the TKO banner. UFC, WWE both rising up.

“The stock price of TKO Holding Ground (is) through the roof. New market in India opened up and booming.

“It was business savvy, and business sense to make the fight happen. Or should I say to make the glorified spar happen.

“In between this waiting period that we find ourselves in before I can get back to the octagon, it made perfect sense on the calendar to go ahead with it.

“The UFC weren’t into it. I’m not sure what WWE’s interest in it was. I just knew the UFC weren’t into it.”

McGregor hasn’t competed in MMA’s premier promotion since July 2021 when he broke his leg during his trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier.

He still has two fights remaining on his UFC contract but there has been little progress made towards a comeback since the breakdown of his long-awaited clash with Michael Chandler in June.

Growing tired of waiting, McGregor has threatened to breach his UFC contract by making an impromptu appearance on BKFC, the American bare-knuckle boxing organisation of which he is a part owner.

“One of these days you’ll just hear my music come onto this stage in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship and I’ll have my fist wrapped with no gloves for a fight, out of nowhere,” McGregor added.

“No promotion. No promo. No nothing. Just fighting a random fight on the card.

“That could be what the future holds. And legal making claims and all this? That’s for p******.”

McGregor concluded the interview by expressing his interest in fighting influencers.

Besides Logan and his brother Jake Paul, McGregor also mentioned British content creator KSI.

“I’m more inclined now for this influencer f***ing, whatever you call it – because it’s astronomical money,” McGregor continued.

“It’s astronomical, the figures. Who is there? Jake. Logan. KSI.

“I like the three of these guys and then all these other ones that are tussling around.

“So it’s an interesting little side pocket branch, we’ll call it. Stuff it down me sock and out I go.”
