Football is a sport where bad decisions always have consequences, and Barcelona is quite aware of this. In fact, the Catalan club have been living the dire consequences of many of their poor decisions over the last couple of years. However, it also translates to the Barcelona players on the pitch.
Rather ironically, even the latest defeat to Real Madrid was nothing but an accumulation of bad decisions being punished. From Xavi’s tactical disaster-class to uninspiring individual displays, there were a lot of things that went much worse than Barcelona could possibly have anticipated.
However, in between their plethora of misfortunes, a key moment that sticks out is Ronald Araujo’s dismissal. Following a rather brash graze against Vinicius Jr, the Uruguayan defender was shown his second yellow card of the game. Thus, with the two yellows turning into a red, he was promptly dismissed.
For Barcelona, however, his absence is not just going to be felt for this recent loss. As per SPORT, it will also carry on to another game afterwards. Even though it was not a direct red and was two separate yellow cards, Araujo will still have to miss one game for Barcelona.
However, despite this game being a part of the Spanish Super Cup, the consequences of it can bleed into other domestic competitions. In this case, the competition that will be effected in the Copa Del Ray. Just as Barcelona are set to take on Unionistas in the Round of 16, they will now be left without their captain in defense.
With the Spanish Super Cup now lost, Barcelona have three other competitions to look towards. The Copa Del Ray is one of those three competitions. However, if Barcelona falter at any point in January when it comes to the cup, they would lose all hope there as well.
