Actress Nicole Nagel, best known for her recurring role on “ER,” is taking her spaceship-like Los Angeles home to auction.
The futuristic house, designed by architect Eric Owen Moss, returned to the market on Tuesday with a listing price just shy of $11 million. However, when it heads to auction next month, starting bids are expected in the $3.75 million to $6.5 million range, though there is no reserve.
Nagel—who bought the Brentwood property in 2011 for $4.12 million, according to records—has been trying to sell the home since last year, when it was listed for nearly $12 million, Mansion Global reported at the time. She’s now decided to sell the house at auction, which is being handled by Concierge, to attract a wider range of buyers, said co-listing agent Sally Forster Jones of Compass.
“The home itself is like a work of art, so bringing it to auction where the world’s finest collectibles and rarities trade seemed to be fitting,” Forster Jones said. “This is the only one of its kind, so it’s really for a specific group of buyers who appreciate design.”
Built in 1991, the home was Moss’s first residential project, and it was used as a case study for his architecture students, Forster Jones said. Moss is more known for his commercial projects, which include the (W)rapper Tower in L.A., and Vespertine and the Samitaur Tower in Culver City, California.
Additionally, Moss designed lighting and tables for Nagel’s home, which are included in the sale, as well as the quirky lagoon-style pool, added by the actress, according to co-listing agent Marc de Longeville of Sotheby’s International Realty – Brentwood Brokerage.
“Originally built without a pool, the seller commissioned Moss to return and design it,” he said.
Moss’s architectural design is still intact, with only some minor modern upgrades made, such as adding an outdoor kitchen and landscaping the yard with fruit trees and palms, the agents said.
The approximately 5,500-square-foot home is full of geometric shapes, combining angular details with a partially domed roof.
“I’ve seen people walking or driving by pause for a few minutes to take in the architecture and design and try to understand the geometry,” Nagel told Mansion Global last year.
There are four bedrooms and five bathrooms, and other features include museum-quality glass to preserve artwork, an outdoor fire pit, and views of Catalina Island and the Pacific Ocean from the rooftop spire.
