Media mogul Byron Allen has sold a contemporary mansion in Aspen, Colo., for $60 million—more than double the $27 million he paid four years ago.

Located on Aspen’s Red Mountain, the house was sold furnished in an off-market deal, according to property records and a person with knowledge of the deal. The identity of the buyer couldn’t be determined.

Built in 2015, the roughly 9,000-square-foot stone house sits on about 0.87 acre, property records show. After buying the house in 2020, Allen made significant upgrades to the property, including the kitchen, lighting and audiovisual systems, according to the person with knowledge of the deal. Allen sold the home because he wasn’t spending much time there, the person said.

The home is steps from the Roaring Fork River with unobstructed views of the surrounding mountains, according to a former listing. The property also has an outdoor pool, large patios, walls of glass and a second-floor terrace, the listing says.

Mandy Welgos of Aspen Snowmass Sotheby’s International Realty represented Allen in the deal, and her colleague Lex Tarumianz represented the buyer, according to Zillow.

Allen, who started out as a comedian, is the founder and chief executive of Allen Media Group, one of the country’s largest privately held media companies. His company owns the Weather Channel, multiple cable networks and roughly 70 television shows as well as about 30 ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox affiliates across the country.

A prolific collector of luxury homes, Allen paid $100 million for an estate in Malibu’s Paradise Cove in 2022. He also owns trophy residences in New York, Hawaii and Beverly Hills, Calif.

Aspen’s luxury real-estate market has experienced a meteoric rise since 2020, with a sharp rise in deals north of $30 million. In April, a mansion overlooking downtown Aspen sold for a record $108 million.
