The former Hampstead residence of Richard Burton is for sale.

Richard Burton, a Welsh actor and Hollywood celebrity, is selling his old London home.

The Blue Plaque property, situated on Lyndhurst Road in Hampstead Village, was the residence of the late Richard and his first wife, Sybil Burton (née Williams), from 1949 until 1956. The Cleopatra star shot several of his most cherished films while dwelling at the property, such as The Robe (1953), Alexander the Great (1956), and The Desert Rats (1953).

“A rare find on one of Hampstead’s most sought-after tree-lined streets,” according to head of sales Katy Brookes of Knight Frank’s Hampstead office, is this particular house.

The semi-detached city house has three upper stories, a raised ground floor, and a lower ground floor with ample space for living. Tall windows, exquisite coving, high ceilings, spacious major rooms, six or seven opulent bedrooms, a separate, self-contained two-bedroom garden apartment, a terrace, and a 60-foot-long rear garden for outdoor meals are just a few of the property’s features.

There’s also a lot to love within. A huge drawing room with a marble fireplace and ceiling coving, an inner hall with a cantilevered staircase, and an inviting entrance hall are all features of the raised ground floor.

Meanwhile, with its center island and bay window facing the garden, the spacious kitchen—which connects to the dining room—is the ideal place to host guests.

A walk-in dressing area and opulent bathroom in the main bedroom further evoke that five-star feel. The second floor’s three more bedrooms have expansive views of the city and the Shard. Because of the abundant natural light, every space feels spacious and light.

The roomy penthouse studio with skylight windows and vaulted ceilings on the third floor, however, is the true eye-catcher. In addition to a separate ensuite shower room, there is an additional open-plan kitchen off the main space, providing accommodations for guests.

Mark Pollack, co-founding director of Aston Chase, says: ‘This Blue Plaque house is not only notable due to the provenance of its former famous resident, but it also represents a rare opportunity to purchase a magnificent family home situated in the heart of Hampstead and within easy walking distance of Hampstead Heath.

The house has a guide price of £7,950,000. For further information contact Aston Chase or Knight Frank.
